I’m a Sussex Wedding Photographer providing wedding photography in East & West Sussex, Surrey, Kent, London and the whole of Southern England. I'm also more than happy to travel further to any part of the UK and beyond! I photograph weddings using a creative and fun approach to help you feel relaxed whilst being photographed. I work in a subtle and discreet way, shooting candid wedding photography and capturing things as they happen throughout the day and blending into the wedding festivities. As a reportage style wedding photographer, I aim to create a relaxed atmosphere for you to enjoy having your photograph taken in.
I’ve worked in the wedding industry for over 10 years and photographed over 150 weddings and I’ve learnt what works well to integrate photography into the wedding day. I will be happy to chat to you about timings of the day and offer any advice you need about your wedding photography and can recommend some great suppliers, depending on your style of wedding.
Your wedding is unique, and although reportage wedding photography should be a part of the day it shouldn’t interfere with the rest of your wedding plans. We’ll work together to get beautiful pictures of you both, capturing all the details of your wedding day as well as getting the family together for a few formal (or informal) group shots. As a reportage wedding photographer, I always want my couples to have plenty of time with their wedding guests, whilst I capture all of your wedding details and candid shots of you and your wedding guests.
For photographs of the bride and groom, I look for photo opportunities and locations around your wedding venue, and then place you in a gorgeous place for the perfect composition. I always aim avoid any awkwardness of posing for photos, and to make things relaxed and informal, and I generally shoot from further away with a telephoto lens, to make you feel more comfortable in front of the camera. I look to place you against a beautiful backdrop, and then get you to just do their own thing and enjoy each other’s company; encouraging laughter, tender moments and a bit of silliness for natural shots and beautiful smiles. It’s important for me that you feel relaxed and everything feels natural and candid in your wedding photography. I definitely won’t order you around or pose you like a supermodel, but I will make small changes to the pose or photograph to ensure you look incredible in your wedding photographs.
We’ll plan your wedding photography into the schedule of the day, and I’ll be keeping an eye on the light and the weather, and when golden hour begins or perhaps, we get a quick downpour, I’ll capture awesome photographs of you both together in an amazing atmosphere. I love being a wedding photographer and using predominantly natural light wherever possible, but I also use flash and studio lighting to ensure excellent exposure as well as for capturing indoor wedding photographs, shots in wet weather, creative opportunities at night and the first dance. I love the amazing light at the golden hour or sunset, but I enjoy working in challenging wet weather too! Check out my portfolio of rainy and winter wedding photography for some spectacular photographs in the rain.
Though I mainly shoot reportage style wedding photography, I’m happy for you to take a creative lead when you want to, and we’ll work together to produce wedding photographs that will make you smile for years to come.
When you look at your wedding photographs, perhaps with your children or even grandchildren, I want the pictures to remind you of not just what the day looked like, but also how it felt to share a day with your partner and your all the people you love.
There are loads of contemporary wedding photographers in Sussex and Surrey (believe me, I’ve checked, and I’m good friends with some!) so why pick me? Well, I hope that my portfolio will inspire you to get in touch but if you’re not quite convinced, have a look at my testimonials page to see some kind words that other brides and grooms have said about my wedding photography. You could also check out my Google and Facebook reviews. I also recommend having a look at the blog to see some of my latest work or have a look at my recent weddings.
I’m fully covered with public liability and professional indemnity insurance as well as insurance for my equipment. I shoot with Canon professional cameras and EF lenses, tripods, Speedlight flashes, Elinchrom studio lights, filters, bags, straps, loads of spare batteries and memory cards, etc… you get the idea.
Phil was able to set everyone at ease on the day and has captured it perfectly, even the small moments and glances in between. We'd recommend him to anyone looking for a wedding photographer that delivers (what our friends have called) "Fairy-tale movie stills".
Thank you Phil!!!!
Wow, just wow! We're so blown away with those shots you posted, they're gorgeous and have shared the link with all our friends and family. Looking forward to the rest of them in a few weeks time.
Thank you for the quick edit of the preview shots. The long veil photo has turned out so so well, absolutely gorgeous! You've really captured the tender moments!
My general prices start from £1049.00 for 8 hours of photography, including all the images fully edited and supplied on a USB or digital disc with an accompanying online gallery. Most of my clients tend to spend between £999-1399 depending on what extras they order and how many hours they require. If this seems a bit outside your budget, you can always have less hours and I'm happy to discuss different options with you.
Wedding photographs are supplied on a USB, and I also offer a wedding albums, a photo-booth service, engagement shoots and second photographer.
All photography packages include:
An initial consultation to discuss your wedding photography and optional extras. Wedding Photography: Typically most clients order coverage from bridal preparations until the first dance but you can adjust this to how much you want me to be working for based on your wedding schedule.
A minimum of 250 fully edited professional, full-resolution photographs; supplied on a USB in a presentation case.
There is also a website gallery for friends and family to view images online.
I recommend getting in touch ASAP to check availability. Most couples book me around a year before their wedding date, but I'm happy meet people earlier or later than this as long as I'm available for their wedding date.
Absolutely! I've travelled all over the Uk for couples and I've even covered some destination weddings in Europe!
Some travel expenses may apply if you live further than 50 miles from Brighton, East Sussex, or 20 miles outside of the M25 or if your wedding is abroad. Accommodation (where necessary) is also not included within the photographer fees. Please contact me for more information and for a full quote.
I like to be very subtle and discreet, capturing things as they happen throughout the day and blending into the wedding itself. Your wedding is unique and I don’t want to interfere with that. I aim to become a part of the day by creating a relaxed atmosphere for you to enjoy having your photograph taken in. We will work together to get great photographs of you both, capture all the details of your day and even line up the family for a few (in) formal shots. I also want you to have time with your guests and loved ones whilst I work, and for photography to not take over your day.
Everything is very informal and I won’t order you around or pose you like a supermodel. But when the light is perfect and using the beautiful surroundings you’ve chosen for your wedding, I’ll capture awesome photographs of you both together. I usually place people into a beautiful place, and then ask them to just do their own thing and enjoy each other’s company; it’s important for me that you feel relaxed and happy in your photographs and everything feels natural.
I shoot with Canon professional cameras and EF lenses, tripods, Speedlight flashes, Elinchrom studio lights, filters, bags, straps, wires, etc… you get the idea.
I shoot a mixture of reportage, candid moments as well as the traditional, formal wedding photography portraits and group photographs. I love natural photographs and utilising the available light, but I also use some off-camera flash where necessary.
Yes, there is an online photo gallery and I'll produce a blog post of your wedding on the website too.
Always within four weeks of the wedding date.
Once the day is over, I will process and edit all the photographs taken and reduce them to between 300 – 1000 photographs depending on the amount of hours I am booked for. The amount of photos tends to work out at around 50-75 photographs per hour that I am booked for. So if you had me there for 10 hours you could expect to receive 500-750 photos. I also edit the photographs, tweaking the colours and contrast, cropping images for optimal composition, convert some photographs to black and white and reorder the images to best tell the story of your wedding chronologically and visually.
A second photographer is available on request, but I tend to work alone on smaller weddings.
Yes, I have a pool of photographers that I know and trust, some of whom have worked as a second shooter for my business, and those of whom I also learnt a lot of my skills from in the early years of my career. I've never missed a wedding job, but I have contingency plans in place in case something ever happened. I can send you my full contract if you'd like to read this section in full.
Yes, I may reproduce, publish, exhibit, and otherwise use images from the wedding for instructional or marketing purposes, provided there is no specific identification of persons (other than first names) appearing in the images. Clients reserve the right to opt out of images being published if they wish to.
There are some sample price package options but I almost always tailor a price package to suit my clients depending on how many hours they would require and whether they would like a Wedding Book, Photo booth or Engagement shoot included. I do charge an hourly rate, but most clients either purchase a package or a set quote including a set amount of hours.
Yes, extra hours on top of the amount booked are usually charged at £100.00 per hour, but the first additional hour is FREE!
The first hour of 'overtime' is FREE, then after this I charge a rate of £100.00 per hour.
I accept payment by bank transfer or cheque. Most clients prefer bank transfers as it's really quick and I can send them a receipt for payment on the same day.
Professionally, courteously and always with a smile!
