Hello! I’m Gemma Willis, a laid back, down to earth documentary wedding photographer based in Higham Ferrers, Northamptonshire.
I will usually be with you from bridal / groom preparations through to 30 mins after your first dance. I will try to be as unobtrusive as possible and blend with you guests to catch all the fun and emotion as it happens. Typically I take you off for around 20 mins, just to get some of those gorgeous shots by yourself (this is also a great time to let all the events sink in!). I think it's important to feel comfortable with your photographer (we are essentially guests at your wedding!) so I also include an inital meeing and any follow up meetings we might need in order to get to know each other and get to know the venue if needed (any excuse for a coffee and cake to be honest!).
A little about me...
A hopeless romantic, avid baker and a bit of a book worm, there’s nothing I love more than a good wedding, except maybe a gin cocktail! I’m also a wife and mum of two girls. I’ve always been fascinated by people and photography has been my vocation ever since my teenage years, it’s all I’ve ever done.
I was a photography teacher for almost a decade before I took the leap into self employment and decided to photograph weddings full time. I have just finished my Master’s degree in Photography too, so I clearly can’t get enough of it.
I have an eclectic taste in music and I love to dance, (yes, I will probably dance at your wedding whilst photographing your guests dancing too). I love autumnal colours and I think that Autumn is my favourite season for this reason. I have a thing for shoes, yet I hardly wear anything other than converse these days.
“Incredible photographer, it felt natural and as though there was no pressure. It also gave me and my new husband time that felt as though it was all to ourselves. Throughout the rest of the day no one even noticed that Gemma was busy snapping away behind the scenes. I could not praise or recommend Gemma enough! From what we’ve previewed the shots are so creative and personal” Steph and James
Having met lots of pushy photographers at wedding fairs, we were instantly drawn to Gemma's laid back approach and super friendly manner. On the day she was so great, as someone who hates having my photo taken I barely noticed she was there, apart from when she made some incredible suggestions - how many brides get to ride the dodgems and the teacups on their big day! We got married nearly a year ago and still look at the photos all the time. The perfect reflection of our big day.
For a full day (from bridal prep through to approx 30 mins after first dance) is £1250. This includes all images on a USB, which is presented in a wooden keepsake box. For an album package, the price would £1600. A second photographer for the full day would be £350.
Wedding, engagement and lifestyle photography. I work in an unobtrusive way, capturing the fun, emotions and merriment as it all happens.
The £1250 package includes me all day from bridal prep through to the first dance. The £1600 package includes all of the above, plus a bespoke high quality 8x10 album.
It depends on the time of year that your wedding is, if it is a Saturday in the summer, get in touch as soon as possible as I book up between 1-2 years in advance.
No, I wouldn't be able to give more than one wedding my full attention and that wouldn't be fair to my couple and would compromise my work.
Yes definitely, my price includes an 80 mile round trip. Any further would incur an extra fee of 45p per mile. For overseas travel, an individual quote would be put together to suit the requirements.
Further than the 80 mile round trip would be 45p per mile plus accommodation if required.
My style is very natural and mostly documentary. Real smiles and laughs are the best kind. I also do the formal group shots if you want these too.
I use two digital DSLR cameras, both have dual card slots. I use an on camera flash when its time for dancing and I also use two LED external flash if required.
I can be quite stealthy when getting the natural shots
I use an online gallery which is password protected. It enables you to private certain images before you share with your friends and family. From there your guests can also purchase their own prints.
Usually between 6-8 weeks, though I always send through some sneaky peeks in the first week.
I will take the best of what I have, edit those and send them over. There will usually be around 500 images. Here is a great article about why photographers will only supply you with a final cut: https://www.yourperfectweddingphotographer.co.uk/article/wedding-photographers-give-unedited-photos/
I usually work alone, but I have an assistant I use if you require a second shooter for the day. This would be an extra £350
Yes, I know several photographers that I would contact, and I am part of a group where I can contact an emergency photographer
I will need your permission in order to publish them on my website. If you do not wish to have them published, this will be detailed in your contract.
Yes, my hourly rate is £200 p/h. So for smaller weddings, this is another option.
Yes, this would be charge at an hourly rate of £95
Bank transfer or an online invoice.
I have quite a relaxed approach, with many of the compliments I get from my couple saying that they felt I was part of the day. Most people say that they had no idea I had taken many of the shots they had received. I like to engage with people and make them feel comfortable around the camera.
