About Josh Tomalin

I'm Josh Tomalin and I take photos at weddings.
My style is all about capturing the elegant, beautiful and funny moments of people in love. My approach is candid, photographing the spontaneous fun in front of me rather than bossing people into cheesy smiles. Some people call it documentary, others call it reportage.
I call it wedding photography that doesn't suck.
I've got 100% 5-star reviews on Google and Bidvine, and you can take a look at my full portfolio and have a read of what my awesome couples have to say about my work at my website.
If you hate having your photo taken, if you've been to a wedding and spent two hours being ordered around by a photographer when you wanted to hit the bar, if you want to spend your wedding day with your nearest and dearest, if you want an alternative to the same old boring wedding photos as everyone else, if you want wedding memories as stylish as you are - then you might have found your wedding photographer.

  • "We hired Josh"
This testimonial was entered by Josh Tomalin on 21 January 2018

to photograph our wedding in September 2016, and were delighted with the outcome. We knew that we wanted informal, casual shots, rather than the traditional formal posed shots. He followed our brief brilliantly, and caught wonderful shots of us but, our family, guests, the location as well as all the little details that made the day unique to us. From preparation, to pre-ceremony gathering to the ceremony to the party he was an excellent presence; easy to talk to, flexible and happy to go about his business without any direction required. He really caught the spirit of the day and was a delight to have with us. Fun, relaxed, professional, producing excellent photos! Con much gusto, señor. - Ida and Joesph

  • "Josh's style of wedding"
This testimonial was entered by Josh Tomalin on 21 January 2018

photography is exactly what we wanted. He made us feel comfortable and less stressed initially, but managed to get so many truely beautiful shots, making us feel like we were re-living our wedding day again when the photos were ready to view. Josh completely blended in with our guests, getting in on all the action, making the candid style so much better. For someone who doesn't like having photos taken, I can honestly say I even love the photos of me! We absolutely recommend Josh. - Kate and Rob

I only photography twenty weddings a year so contact me as soon as you've set a date.

Absolutely not.

Yes - I travel all over the UK for weddings.

What is the charge for travelling?

Some people call it reportage or documentary or candid. I call it wedding photography that doesn't suck.

What kind of technology do you use?

Sexy digital rangefinder cameras.

Do you use a specific technique or innovative approach?

My style is completely candid. Unlike other photographers who take a few high-contrast monochrome images and call it reportage, my style is entirely rooted in timeless, elegant documentary tradition.

I use professional Fujifilm rangefinders. I write occasionally about my equipment at Fujilove Magazine.

I edit down the images I take into a collection to tell the story of your day. I only ever send you my best work, no alternatives or duplicate images.

Do you work alone or do you have a team of professionals?

My wedding photography is all about capturing intimate and personal moments, hence I don't bring an entourage with me to get in people's way and change the environment I am photographing in.

In case of unforeseen circumstances, do you have a replacement photographer?

Since 2009, I have never missed a single wedding for any reason. If the worst came to the worse I would absolutely arrange a replacement for you.

Do you have the rights to publish the wedding photos?

It is entirely your choice as to whether I can use your images in my portfolio.

Do you charge per hour or per event?

I have two simple packages available, one full-day and one half-day.

If needed, would you be able to work extra hours?

My full-day package is unlimited in terms of the length of coverage. I'll be there until there are no more photos to take.

What are the forms of payment?

I accept bank transfer, major cards and paypal.

How do you work?

I'm a documentary wedding photographer, which means I don't pose people, I don't get them to stand in lines or say cheese. I am like another guest at your wedding with a camera in one hand and a drink in the other. I won't stalk you from behind a tree with a huge lens and I won't be a wallflower. I'll flirt with your mum with a drink in my hand and tell dirty jokes with your groomsmen. I let people do their thing and click a shutter from time to time.
