About Liza O'Malley Photography

Hi lovebirds! Liza here! I’m based in the quirky, alternative city of Brighton on the Sunny South Coast...though I am fairly often find myself popping up the M23 to London and the home counties. I absolutely love my job as a documentary wedding photographer.  I’ve been photographing weddings for over five years now.  I am an adventurous, people loving, laid back kind of gal.  I’m mad for; road trips in a camper, long dog walks, cosy pubs, occasional crazy nights out and singing my heart out in my choir!  I get a real kick out of connecting with you guys, getting to know you pretty darn quickly and being a part of your wedding day (albeit a fly on the wall part!), cos that is what my style is all about.  What I mean by documentary style is that I take photos of the moments of your day.  The fun moments, the cutesy incidental moments, the emotional moments, the nervous moments, the crazy party moments, the candid moments - all of these moments add up to telling the whole story of your wedding day.  From beginning to end.  So the images you get will be very natural, real, authentic, fun images and with maybe even a few tears!  I'm all for genuine laughs, toothy grins, side glances and generally just stuff as it is when it happens. To do this I am very unobtrusive, you will hardly notice me. (This is the fly on the wall bit).   I give little or no direction or instructions.  Whadda about the portraits?…you must be thinking!! Of course we will get some gorgeous portraits of you both (hopefully in a lovely, natural setting) but we will take them in a fun, unposed very natural kind of way.  I do aim to use my creative skills to the max in taking these, always looking for the right light and interesting compositions.  20 minutes tops for your portraits. This leaves you more time to have fun with your family and mates.
Well that’s abit about me…. Now it’s your turn!  I‘m guessing you guys are an adventurous, fun loving couple?  You don’t mind taking a few risks and you are all about spontaneity and authenticity?  Maybe you love this big, beautiful world as much as I do but you are still horrified what we are all doing to our planet?  The reason I am blabbing on about this kind of stuff is as your photographer it is important that we connect, that you feel relaxed with me and trust me.  So if you like the look of my images and you think we might be a good fit, please give me a bell or drop me an email and firstly see if I am available on your wedding date.  Then lets have a chat over coffee, pint or wine and talk about your wedding.  (We can also Skype if you like).  I will be sure to  show you some samples of my work and some stunning wedding albums from real clients.
So that’s about it.  That’s me and what I do.  I’d love to hear from you and answer any questions you may have.

Take it easy and have awesome fun planning your wedding!

Liza xx

  • "Wonderful!"
    Becky & Nav - September 2017 on 12 February 2018

These are so wonderful Liza! The day was a bit of a blur as I found it quite stressful so these photos really really highlight the beauty of the ceremony for me. I can't thank you enough. Nav is going to LOVE them!

  • "Absolutely Amazing. Beyond Expectations!"
Katie and Stu - May 2015 on 12 February 2018

What can I say, Liza you captured our day perfectly and we can't thank you enough. Throughout the day we barely noticed you were there, the resulting photos are absolutely amazing and beyond our expectations. It wasn't just on the day though that impressed us. Taking the time to consult with us beforehand to find exactly what we wanted. Thanks so much for everything.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the price of your service?

I have three packages ranging from £900 to £1595. Have a look through my three different options and see which one suits you the best. Whichever option you choose you can bet your bottom dollar you will get a set of awesome, natural stunning images that tell the whole story of your day. Nothing is set in stone though, so please sing out if you have any special requests or tweaks you'd like to make. Check out my website for more details on each package.

Are you able to travel?

Well you may have picked up I LOVE to travel and the thought of a destination wedding does make me tingle with excitement! I frequently shoot weddings in New Zealand and Australia during the "downunder" wedding season. So shout out if you are getting married downunder Dec/Jan I may be able to slot your wedding date into my schedule at no extra travel cost. I am always up for shooting in London and the home counties (normal rates apply @ no extra travel cost). If you are getting married a little further afield in the UK or Europe I charge a bit extra to cover travel and accomodation expenses. All individually quoted please ask, its usually not much at all.

What style of photos do you take?

Some couples choose photographers that love taking lots of formal group shots, fine detail shots of just about everything and formal portrait shots of the couple that take about an hour to set up and do. Well if you are after that kind of photography I'm probably not the right fit for you, its just not my cup of tea! My thing and the way I shoot is to record the day in a less formal and more unposed kind of way. Au natural! Yes I can definitely shoot the kind of group shots to keep Great Aunt Gertrude at bay and to document all your lovely guests and family who attended. (Most couples choose to do about 4-5 group shots max). With regards your couple portraits I take these in a very relaxed, unposed way, with little instruction. I look more for fantastic environments or backdrops and you guys just be you. Enjoy the moment alone (well other than me clicking away!) and we'll get some lovely natural, beautiful images in about 20 mins.

What kind of kit do you have?

I am fully kitted out with two professional full frame Nikon D750s and I LOVE my babies! I use mainly 35mm and 85mm prime lenses for that authentic documentary style image. I have also got a wide angle lense and the amazing 70-200mm zoom which can come in handy but I mainly stick with my primes. I have back up copies of my memory cards just to be on the safe side! In the evening I generally stick on my speedlite flash but power it right down so the images look natural and "unflash" like. My aim as your photographer is to blend in and be like a "fly on the wall" taking natural, unposed moments.
