About The Cake Witch

The Cake Witch is a cake place with a difference. We don’t just bake, we don’t just decorate and we certainly don’t just make a nice a sponge (although we do make a very nice sponge). We live cake. We breathe cake. We dream cake. We are here to indulge all your sugary desires, from inception to ingestion, we want every second of your cakey journey to be epic.
Like we said earlier, we do make a smashing sponge. But there is an awful lot The Cake Witch can do with a sponge!  On our website you will find a list of some of the most popular flavours, but don't feel restricted; we have created flavours to honour the botanicals found in gin, recipes to suit gluten-free, grain intolerance, vegan and dairy-free plus adaptations of family favourites.
One of the things that The Cake Witch really does enjoy and revels in (and actually sometimes does a little celebratory dance about) is that, where possible, we make our own jams and curds. Not only that (“there’s more than that?” I hear you gasp) we even grow, pick and forage our own fruits to make said jams and curds)  We have a little kitchen garden that we grow all sorts of lovelies in, including all the edible flowers and herbs that we use to decorate our botanical cakes with. It is utter bliss and we enjoy every second of taking the flowers and fruits from the kitchen garden to the kitchen and using them to create flavours and decorations. We are also fortunate enough to be based in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and we are surrounded by fruit farms (very friendly ones), wild fruits, glorious flora and fauna and a general sense of natural beauty that inspires us every day to make our cakes as utterly gorgeous and representative of our surroundings as possible.
The Cake Witch doesn't just make a pretty cake to look at, we go all out to give you the taste sensation your celebration deserves. From Honey Buttermilk and Caramel, to Raspberry Rose and Elderflower, we will rock your nuptial taste buds.

    Nicola was wonderful to work with and brought our ideas to life. We were delighted with our wedding cake, which looked stunning and was gorgeous to eat, prompting lots of comments from our guests! Nicola ensured the bride was able to enjoy the cake with a gluten free tier, which stayed fresh and yummy even 3 weeks later! Thank you so much Nicola - we thoroughly recommend The Cake Witch! People were blown away by it, how it looked and especially how delicious it was! The people who needed the top tier were so so happy and said it was the most delicious “free from” cake they’d ever had! Frequently Asked Questions

How much do your services cost?

It's almost impossible to give a straight answer to this question! A wedding cake should be as personal to the couple as any other element of their big day. However, if I am given ideas, flavours, photographs, guest numbers, I can usually supply a quotation within a day. We can then refine it over time or during a consultation, which I like a lot!

Do you offer any other services?

I like to think that if I can personalise your cake with additional services, I will! I have retrieved log slices from a blown down willow tree in my garden for a bride who wanted log slice cup cake platters!

How much notice do I need to give you?

As much as possible! Cake designers are just like any other wedding supplier and we get booked up to two years in advance. However, that said, there are often random dates that are free with very short notice, so please just ask!

Do you deliver?

Yes, I do. A quotation for this service will be offered during our communications with you.

What are the forms of payment?

Cash, bank transfer or cheque. All the terms and conditions for payment are outlined in the contract that is issued upon booking our services.

What flavours do you offer?

It's easier to say what flavours I don't offer! Perhaps whelk and cranberry wouldn't be a go-er, but in the main, if you have a flavour itch, we'll do our best to scratch it and will create recipes to suit your theme, your favourites, even your tipple! However, here is a not-at-all-definitive list of the current favourite flavours here at TCW kitchen: Vanilla Madeira with vanilla buttercream (and whatever jam takes your fancy). Rich Chocolate cake with coffee syrup, chocolate cream and salted caramel sauce. Tooth-pingingly good! Rich Chocolate with chocolate buttercream (made to a special recipe that involves espresso and black treacle….). Smashing Lemon with lemon Syrup, lemon buttercream (and some raspberry jam if you’d like). Red Velvet (awesomeness in cake form) with cream cheese frosting. Pink Velvet (raspberry and elderflower) with raspberry cream cheese frosting. Honey Caramel with honey frosting and honey caramel sauce. Peach Melba with gorgeous Italian peach jam, raspberry jam & peach buttercream. Lemon and Blueberry Marble Cake (or any flavour marble cake, we like them a lot!). Strawberry Madeira (real strawberries, not flavourings) with vanilla buttercream and strawberry jam with drizzles of homemade real gin syrup between the layers. Strawberry Mango Light Fruit (this is so good! Strawberry, mango, raisins, pecans and spices). Prune and Amagnac Rich Fruit (aged to infinity and beyond, and fed regularly with Armagnac). Alcohol-free Rich Fruit cake (vine fruits soaked with a mixture of fresh citrus juices and spices). Blood Orange and Thyme Madeira with beautiful blood orange frosting. Orange and Almond Madeira with Armagnac-soaked raisin cinnamon buttercream and fig jam. Raspberry and Prosecco Cake. (Yup, bubbles and cake in one place. Swoon).

Do you offer cake tastings?

Yes! I can either do a straightforward consultation with no cake (boo!) which is free of charge. Or I offer a tasting session whereby you choose your cake flavours and I bake them specially for you. You can have as many flavours as you like, each flavour is £15 and you not only get to eat cake at the consultation but I also make you up a little box of your cakes to take home and share, or not! The most popular route is to choose the number of flavours as tiers on your wedding cake, then all you have to decide is which order you want the flavours!

How do you communicate with your couples in the first instance and beyond?

Well, in the first instance my couples will have contacted me through Hitched or my other portals such as the website, facebook or Instagram. I try to respond within the shortest amount of time possible, which is a pleasure as I am always uber excited to talk about cake! From that point my lovely couple supply me with images, ideas, numbers, etc for me to give them an idea of the cost of their cake and any other suggestions I may have. Most of the time a consultation is then arranged, either with a tasting, or just to talk over the final designs. I really do love meeting my couples, it gives me a much better idea when baking and decorating of who I am creating for. I love to have the personality, character and faces of my couples with me when I'm working on their cake, it makes the whole thing so much more personal and enjoyable. I have been known to make love hearts out of glace cherries with the couples' initials inside when I'm making the mix, just so that their love is stirred into the cake right from the start!

Do you liaise with the venue?

Yes! A week or two before your big day I will personally contact the venue and speak to your wedding coordinator or the venue's specialist. This ensures that I am briefed on where the cake has to be set up and the time the venue require all suppliers to disappear. It also means that this part of your wedding team are all communicating with each other which leaves no room for misunderstandings on your big day.

What's your company ethos?

I believe very strongly (verrrrrry strongly) that I am here to create a cake for YOU. I want you to feel that I am on your side totally and that you can trust me to do the best for you in the sugary realms you cakey desire. I will offer guidance and advise what will work the best for you and at all times I will do my utmost to fulfil your brief. I genuinely want to create cake magic for your big day because I am as passionate about the cake being perfect for you, your partner and your guests as you are. You being happy and secure with me as your cake designer is what makes me happy and secure and I will always expect total brilliance from myself, so you need not worry at all!

Do you offer vegan wedding cakes?

Yes! We have recently spent a lot of time researching, testing and trialling these so that we can now offer tiered, beautiful, tasty and stunning vegan wedding cakes.
