Brides don’t waste your time - highly marked up and not open to requests

The Ladies providing service here are lovely, no doubt about that, but they just want your appointment money.
Give this place a skip if you are anything other than grandmother or mother of the bride. Only three options with fitting cost, they carry far less stock than what is on the website. Two of the options were basically the same polyester dress with different embellishments (one beaded, one lace). I tried to be open to suggestion, but the options were basically to look like a rather bulked up Ms.Piggy, in polyester no less, for a nominal £1800. At first I was surprised because this was a third of my stated dress budget, nevertheless by sheer happenstance, I found the same dresses for £750 at another bridal shop with less ordering lead time. Not my style, but to be noted given there was far more off rack selection at the other bridal shop.
I was told (reminder for a polyester dress) it was a six month lead time for an order, and then alterations would be made from the sample dress in the store. At anything around that price point I would expect to have alterations included given the obvious mark up.
During my fitting, wearing a gawdy awful dress that I said wasn’t my style at all, I had to listen to a constant stream of complaints that I was lucky to be accommodated given my short lead time (agreed, 5 months isn’t much for wedding dress lead time) and that the dress really suited me.
Given my concerns which I voiced well before making an appointment, I was reassured several times, by a lovely, but clearly ignorant staff member who said they could easily accommodate me. My ignorance was not to read the room, and understand they would easily take appointment money with absolutely no intention or facility to accommodate anything.
I couldn’t get out of there fast enough. If my daughter was getting married though, they have some simple elegant options all of which are available on their website and seemingly in the store.

Disappointing Service and Poor Fit – Not Worth the Premium Price

I wouldn’t recommend Joyce Young based on my experience purchasing bridesmaids’ dresses.

With my bridesmaids based in both London and Glasgow, I was initially delighted to find Joyce Young had stores in both cities, this made us think the process of fittings and style selection seem straightforward. Wanting to make it a special experience, I booked an appointment at the Glasgow store months in advance and travelled up from London to attend with my Glasgow bridesmaids.

Unfortunately, after already travelling up to Glasgow, we were told that all of the regular staff were away at a wedding fair(making it unclear why they would have booked us the appointment months in advanced). The only person available to help was a seamstress who, although bit at fault, made it clear she didn’t usually handle appointments and was unable to answer most of our questions or provide guidance on browsing styles, leaving us to our own devices.

We eventually selected dresses and had everyone measured in-store, but when the dresses were later delivered, every single one was far too large(multiple dress sizes). We were forced to take them elsewhere for alterations, adding over £300 in unexpected costs.

For the premium price point and the brand’s reputation, I had expected a far higher level of service and a better fit on delivery. I wouldn’t describe the process as warm or welcoming. Sadly, I wouldn’t recommend them based on my experience

A beautiful experience

Choosing and designing my dress at Joyce Young was a pleasure from start to finish. Mary and all the other staff were so helpful and friendly, and the experience was one of my favourite parts of preparing for the wedding. It was great to have the flexibility to take elements that I liked from different dresses and combine them to create one that was unique for me. Kolin had an amazing attention to detail when designing the dress, in particular when attaching the individual pieces of lace on the top. The final result was perfect and really comfortable to wear. I also loved having different items that I could add or remove, such as the separate top and overskirt, to create several different looks during the course of the day. Thank you to everyone at Joyce Young for being such an important part of my special day! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Joyce Young to anyone looking for a beautiful and unique wedding dress.

Joyce Young

I went in search of a mother of the bride outfit. I was unsure what would suit me and best disguise figure faults. The Staff were extremely helpful and friendly, give good advice and as to the outfit itself paid great attention to detail. I was thrilled with the completed outfit and they also gave me good advice on a suitable hat! Bits of the fabric used for the garments were applied around the hat brim.

Perfect Dress & Delightful Experience

I had a wonderful experience at the London boutique. Mary and her team could not have made me more comfortable and welcome. Not only were the team welcoming and friendly, they also ensured that I had the dress of my dreams. There was not a single detail that I had to compromise on. Everything was made to fit me, and the dress was so perfect. The best thing about it was that the dress was incredibly comfortable, so I could be relaxed on the day of the wedding.

Definitely the place to go!

Both my daughter and my son's weddings have taken place in 2021; one in the UK and the other in New York. If i could give Joyce Young 6 stars i would. Both my outfits were a pleasure to design and buy and the wearing of them was a most fabulous experience. The compliments were plentiful both here and the USA....I felt so special and was told I looked it. For any mother of both bride and groom, don't go anywhere else, this is the place to go. I thank them from the bottom of my heart.

A bespoke dress with the personal touch

Mary and the team made me the most gorgeous gown balancing my off the wall ideas, with style, fun and a personal approach. My family and friends felt involved at all stages. The tartan train was commented on by all our guests and was a wonderful touch.
I cannot recommend Joyce Young more. From the fun, professional fittings in gorgeous fitting rooms, to ease of collection in Glasgow, the whole process was a breeze. I would love to the whole process all over again!

Personable and 100%reliable

The team from the beginning were friendly and focused on finding the right dress for me. The ladies offered me many options for my dream dress, until I found the dress! Mary was there for every fitting, the team made sure my dress suited my every need. The quality of each dress is High end. I have really sensitive skin and after trying on so many dresses is so many shops the dresses is Joyce young I had no reactions to any of them. Each dress on the shop floor is well looked after including my own dress. The website has a massive selection of all their gorgeous gowns and they capture all the details.

Due to covid I had rescheduled my wedding 4 times. The team made sure all fittings were rescheduled to ensure the dress fit me perfectly on my wedding day. I cannot thank everyone at Joyce Young enough!

I received the best compliments on my special day from guests and anyone else who saw me, it was literally all about how amazing the dress was.

The perfect wedding dress experience

I cannot rate Joyce Young highly enough. The whole team is an absolute joy to work with - I visited several different bridal boutiques and none came close to the exceptional experience I received with Joyce Young. They truly care about every single detail - they want you to not only feel perfect on your big day, but also enjoy the lead up to it. I looked forward to every appointment I had with them and am sad I don’t get to go down there for more fittings now!! By the end of my time working with them, I felt like I knew them and they really were an important part of my excitement getting married.

My dress was also absolutely perfect. There were customisations I wanted to make to my dress and they did everything to make them happen, and offered genuine helpful advice too. There aren’t enough words for how great they are!! Go and see them, you will not be disappointed.

Thank you Mary, Colin, Valerie for being so fantastic at what you do and for giving me such a personal and enjoyable experience with my dream wedding dress.
