The tall bride, who is 56, knew she didn’t want to wear a big white meringue. She also didn’t want a plain suit, although she did have a dove grey Jacques Vert suit on standby just in case.
She took her ‘best lady’ to a variety of dress shops and looked at a lot of ‘mother of the bride’ options too, but in the end she decided to order her outfit online. Yvonne was disappointed with the gown that arrived – it was badly creased and marked, as well as being the wrong size.
Luckily Margaret Marriott, a seamstress in Waltham Cross, was able to salvage it. Yvonne wore a lavender blue taffeta gown with ruched detailing, and a pretty embroidered bolero. She also bought dyeable satin courts and a white satin handbag, which she had dyed to match. A large corsage completed the look.
