The wedding cake wasn’t an important focus at Derek and Vanessa’s wedding so they opted for a simple but elegant wedding cake from Marks and Spencer. They personalised the white cake with colourful fresh flowers.
Vanessa and Derek were keen to cut the cake quickly so they could rush on to the dancefloor and really get the party started. They shared their first dance to ‘Halo’ by Beyoncé, which switched to Paolo Nutini’s ‘Pencil Full of Lead’ halfway through to get everyone dancing.
As Derek is from Dublin, the couple hired Irish band Spill the Whisky to play as the guests arrived at the reception, and as a surprise and to honour her New Zealand roots, Vanessa also hired Ngati Rananá from a Maori Culture Performance Group to dance. She’ll never forget their amazing performance.
After their unique wedding, the newlyweds spent a week relaxing in Mauritius followed by four days of exploring in Dubai.
