Sophie and Tristan’s 1930’s Inspired Real Wedding

You could say that Sophie and Tristan are high school sweethearts – they met at 17, dated for a bit before going their separate ways then reunited again as friends before realising that this was something more!

The story of how they officially got together is a brilliant one.

Their love story began not long after Sophie moved to the same area as Tristan, which was when their relationship progressed from friendship to something more serious.

One day, whilst he was attending Download Festival, Tristan felt that he had enough liquid courage to ask Sophie out properly! Perhaps not the romantic propositions but of course Sophie was delighted to take things to the next level.

Although the proposal was meant to take place on their first big holiday together to New York (one too many drinks meant that Tristan wisely decided to postpone the big question!), Tristan eventually decided to get down on one knee for a super sweet proposal at home.

Sophie was speechless at first, but after the shock sunk in 10 minutes later the couple were officially engaged!

A year and four months later, Sophie and Tristan tied the knot in a beautiful, vintage inspired ceremony at the stunning Whirlowbrook Hall in Sheffield.

Their perfect venue provided the setting for their truly perfect day, as they celebrated their happy occasion along with their nearest and dearest.

Sophie’s 1930s Style Champagne Wedding Dress

Finding a dreamy wedding dress wasn’t the easiest task for Sophie, as she ended up trying on a whopping 30 or 40 dresses overall!

After realising that she was being drawn to similar styles of dress, Sophie thought that it would be better to get her dress handmade to suit her petite figure.

Sophie’s mum introduced her to her friend Dinah, a dress maker from Longland Couture, who the bride then worked closely with to create the design for her perfect wedding dress.

The finished design was a stunning 1930s style A-line dress made from champagne coloured satin, exquisitely decorated with a lace overlay, a v-neckline, cap sleeves and crystal beaded detail.

Sophie was delighted with her beautiful vintage dress which had contemporary elements to suit her curvy silhouette – the made to measure design fit her like a glove.

She paired the gorgeous dress with a pair of silver drop diamond earrings, bought by Tristan for the couple’s first Christmas, and an opal drop necklace which her parents gave to her on the big day.

A headdress from her grandmother and a waist length veil were the final flourishes.

As for her bridal beauty look, Sophie decided to go for an eye catching red lip and defined eyes to make her features really stand out – she even did her makeup herself after seeking advice from professional makeup counters!

Her dark hair was styled into a chic vintage updo by Jackie from Jago Hair, who also styled Sophie’s three bridesmaids and her mum too.

Sophie’s Handmade Teardrop Bouquet

Due to an allergy to real flowers, it was only natural that Sophie opted for a stunning artificial bouquet for her big day.

She collected silk flowers from various stores and ended up piecing together a truly elegant teardrop bouquet with a colour palette of purple, cream and gold accents.

Sophie loved her delicate and beautiful wedding bouquet – so much so that she didn’t want to toss it at the reception!

Her bouquet matched the purple and cream floral centrepieces at the reception, which were displayed in giant martini glasses filled with mini lights to give the arrangements a lovely glow – all of which was arranged by florist Jane from The Garden Stall.

Sophie simply had to keep her teardrop bouquet after the wedding, so it now sits in a vase in her bedroom – a lovely reminder of her big day that will never wilt.

Tristan’s Sophisticated Groomswear

As for Sophie’s groom Tristan, he and his best man treated themselves to a pair of slick Hugo Boss suits for the occasion.

The stylish dark grey suits were paired with aubergine satin ties and a white flower corsage made from silk.

These colours worked well together and certainly complemented the aubergine and silver reception colour scheme.

Although Sophie went with Tristan to choose a suit, he picked out the Hugo Boss ones himself and Sophie agreed that they were perfect – both the groom and his best man looked very dapper on the big day!

A Luxurious Wedding Venue in Sheffield

Sophie and Tristan fell in love with Whirlowbrook Hall, an impressive Sheffield venue that simply had to be the setting for their big day.

The couple were full of praise for the venue’s helpful and friendly staff and they loved that the venue got be exclusively theirs for the whole day.

This meant that they could make full use of the wonderful spaces inside the house as well as the picture perfect grounds.

Every part of Tristan and Sophie’s big day took place at Whirlowbrook Hall, including their civil ceremony which was full of unforgettable moments.

Sophie’s dad walked her down the aisle to ‘She’s Always a Woman to Me’ by Billy Joel. One of Tristan’s favourite moments of the day was watching his beautiful bride enter to this song, as it was the most perfect choice and she looked amazing.

The couple swapped elegant white gold wedding bands from Beaverbrooks – Sophie’s one had a small indent so that it perfectly fit her 18ct diamond engagement ring.

For a truly personal and sentimental moment, the couple made sure that Tristan’s sister Bethan showed off her fantastic voice and got her to sing while they signed the register.

A Show-Stopping Floral Wedding Cake

Tristan and Sophie’s four tiered floral wedding cake was an absolute dream.

Made by baker Jojo of Jojo’s Cakes, the stunning design featured a cascade of aubergine coloured florals and matching ribbon around each tier – this complemented the wedding’s colour scheme perfectly.

For an added treat, the tiers even had different flavour! These consisted of red velvet, lemon and chocolate so that there was something to suit every guests’ taste.

The cake went down amazingly with the guests, but Tristan and Sophie made sure to save the top tier and eat it on their honeymoon!

‘Sparkling’ Evening Entertainment

As Sophie and Tristan’s wedding date fell during the November bonfire weekend, they provided their guests with sparklers to use in the grounds.

The sparklers made for some fantastic photo moments and the couple were thrilled that everyone in their party joined in – they especially loved seeing the grandparents, aunts and uncles waving their sparklers around like excited children!

Everyone even got to enjoy a nearby firework display situated close to Whirlowbrook Hall, which added even more wow factor to the unforgettable occasion.

Sophie and Tristan also decided to treat their guests to some very glamorous wedding favours – mini silver top hats for the boys and silver handbags filled with sweets for the ladies.

The evening party kicked off with the first dance, which was ‘Kiss Me’ by Sixpence None the Richer, a pop rock song which suited the couple perfectly.

Everyone danced the night away to music provided by the venue’s DJ which was a wonderful way to end such an amazing day.

A Romantic Italian Honeymoon

After their dream wedding day, Sophie and Tristan jetted off an Italian honeymoon to visit a host of romantic destinations.

They decided on their chosen honeymoon destination after making a shortlist of all the places they wanted to visit and eliminating them one by one, until eventually, Italy was the winner.

Seeing as the couple had visited Italy before, they were looking forward to going again and made sure to book places they hadn’t seen before.

Luckily, the weather was beautiful and set the scene for a gorgeous honeymoon. The loved up newlyweds enjoyed sightseeing and taking in the architecture and history of Rome, Pompeii, Sorrento, Naples and the Amalfi coast.
