Sasha & Oliver’s Real Wedding

After five years, a long distance relationship and plenty of amazing memories, Sasha and Oliver finally tied the knot!

After five years, a long distance relationship and plenty of amazing memories, Sasha and Oliver finally tied the knot!

An Italian Proposal

Oliver and Sasha have one of those real ‘true love’ kind of stories. The pair began their relationship in 2009, just before Oliver made a huge move over to Kuwait to teach in a British school. Their love for each other strongly survived a two year long distance relationship until Sasha finally finished her degree and joined Oliver in Kuwait. Five years after they first began their relationship, the pair set off for a romantic getaway in Venice where Oliver had something extra special prepared for Sasha.

On their second day in the gorgeous Italian city, in an idyllic and romantic spot, Oliver got down on one knee and asked Sasha to be his wife with a 1 carat, princess cut engagement ring. They spent the next 19 months planning what was always going to be the wedding of their dreams with regular trips to and from the UK to coordinate the day.

The Bridal Beauty

Choosing her wedding dress was a pleasant experience for Sasha. She fell in love with the Pronovias gown at Knutsford Wedding Gallery on a surprise shop with her bridesmaids and mum and ventured back months later to finally buy it after trying plenty of other designs and struggling to forget this one.

Sasha paired her beautiful gown with a simple yet elegant fingertip veil which was adorned with delicate lace trimmings and some diamond accessories gifted to her by her groom and her parents. The bride graced her wedding day in every girls’ dream heels – a pair of champagne Jimmy Choo sandals that would make anyone feel like a princess.

When it came to her make-up, Sasha originally tried out a traditional bridal look before deciding this just wasn’t for her. At her second trial, she opted for a more glamorous look than her everyday style – boasting a half up half down hair do with plenty of volume and loose curls, and a smoky eyed make-up look.

Sasha looked incredible and she felt it too – her beautiful makeup and hair had been totally perfected by Orchid Blush.

The Beautiful Bridesmaids

Sasha opted for five bridesmaids on hers and Oliver’s wedding day. One of the girls was Oliver’s sister and the other four ladies had been Sasha’s best friends since school. She really wanted all of her bridesmaids to feel as comfortable and amazing as her on the big day so they all sat down together and discussed styles they liked.

She knew she wanted them all in floor-length dresses and between them they opted for a powder blue gown with a racer neckline and low back. The dresses were made to measure from a local Staffordshire shop and both Sasha and her bridesmaids were over the moon with how they looked.

The bridal party all had their hair and make-up done at the venue on the morning of the wedding – they loved spending the morning there, being pampered and preened to perfection ahead of what was going to be such a gorgeous wedding day.

The Groom’s Style

Sasha’s groom Oliver really did everything he possibly could to make sure that this day was the best day of his bride’s life. On the morning of the wedding he gave his sister a present to give to Sasha – a Mulberry clutch bag and a romantic love note for her to read and it brought a tear to her eye.

Oliver opted for a black slim-fit dinner suit with matching bow tie and patent shoes – all fro, Hugo boss. He and Sasha had agreed on a ‘style’ of suit beforehand and the bow tie was definitely a joint decision but Oliver kept his groom’s look a secret until the day of the wedding, as did Sasha with her wedding dress.

They saw each other suited and booted for the first time at the altar and had an emotional, yet smiley ceremony with both of them feeling incredibly happy.

“The night before my wedding I told my best man and ushers to not worry about me and make sure Sasha has the best day of her life. All that mattered to me was that she had the most perfect day.” – Oliver really wanted to make Sasha feel special!

The Venue of Their Dreams

Oliver and Sasha decided to host their gorgeous wedding day at Knowsley Hall in Merseyside. It was the beautiful décor inside and out that sold it for Sasha and the incredibly picturesque gardens that won Oliver over. With an elegant wedding theme to keep in line with, this couple knew that Knowsley Hall ticked every single one of their boxes.

When it came to making it their own, both the bride and groom knew they wanted to keep it simple. White was a running theme throughout the décor with white flowers to be seen everywhere and a white carpet in the ceremony hall.

They carried the white theme on with their table place names and wedding album being a shade of white too. Flowers were a huge part of Oliver and Sasha’s décor with Red Floral Architecture arranging it all to look exactly how the couples had envisioned. From white floral plinths running down the ceremony aisle to blossom trees as centrepieces – everything looked incredible and their theme really did epitomise the look of elegance.

The Wedding Breakfast

Oliver and Sasha served their guests a true feast at the wedding breakfast. To start, a muffin of Knowsley blush tomatoes, mozzarella and basil pesto was offered to the guests.

The main consisted of a pan fried Goosnargh chicken with Hesketh bank spinach, Knowsley carrot pureé, new potatoes and a grain mustard cream sauce.

The menu was finished off with three types of dessert. Chocolate brownies with vanilla ice cream and raspberries was the main desert with tea, coffee and homemade truffles as one alternative and a selection of cheese and biscuits as the other.

The couple also served their gorgeous wedding cake made by The Frostery on the night. They had a three tier white cake with the top tier limonchella flavoured, the middle being a Victoria sponge and a salted caramel bottom tier – how delicious!

They also opted for edible wedding favours on the night, giving each guest a heart shaped biscuit design in white to keep in with the overall theme. Each biscuit had a guest’s name piped onto it in black icing and they used these as a double-up for place names.

The Finishing Touches

As well as arranging the décor flowers, Red Floral Architecture were also responsible for Sasha’s beautiful wedding bouquet. The bride opted for a hand tied bouquet created from masses of white summer blooms. She chose to have a variety of flower types in the bouquet to create a mixed texture. Among the variety of flowers put together are white roses, delphiniums, white sweet peas and larkspur blooms.

Every single detail of this wedding had a great amount of thought put into it and the couple wanted a few extras to make it even more special. They hired a drone to take some pictures of the wedding and surprised the guests with it outdoors. It created such an amazing atmosphere and went down a treat with the guests who loved every minute of it.

They also had a Polaroid camera for guests to take pictures on and a string quartet who played during their ceremony. Sasha and Oliver decided to keep the entertainment simple yet elegant just like their wedding theme and finished off the evening with a DJ and a party!

The Happily Ever After

When it comes to what they did after the wedding, Sasha and Oliver made a lot of people in the hitched office very jealous. The couple have embarked on a ‘honeymoon year’ of travelling with their adventure starting in Shanghai to start their new jobs. Their plan is to travel from Shanghai to Lombok, Bali, Malaysia, Singapore and a special summer trip to celebrate their anniversary.

As their plans grow, the honeymoon year may even turn into a honeymoon of two years – they have dreams of extending their travels to countries like Australia and New Zealand. They really a couple who love exploring the world.

The honeymoon will end (eventually) with a safari trip which will bring them to the end of one incredible adventure and allow them to start the next.

Looking back on the whole wedding from the engagement to the planning, the actual day itself and the aftermath celebrations; both Sasha and Oliver have vowed that they wouldn’t change a thing. They stuck to their budget but made sure that they didn’t miss out on anything that they wanted.

Their top piece of advice to other couples who are planning their wedding is: “Do not compromise on what you want. This is your big day and you deserve to have everything you want. Money is only money, but memories last forever.”
