Rachel arrived at the traditional Catholic wedding ceremony, which took place at St Robert’s Church in Morpeth, in a white Rolls Royce with her father and bridesmaids. Her mother and grandfather followed. The guests all arrived together in a vintage red London bus from Dreadnought Coaches.
Rachel’s grandfather, George, walked her down the aisle to the sound of Pachelbel’s Canon in D. The wedding party sang hymns such as ‘Shine Jesus Shine’ and ‘Give Me Joy in My Heart’. Two close friends, Anna and Jamie, both did biblical readings.
Mark and Rachel exchanged rings bought from Moon Jewellery, and Rachel’s ring included two diamonds left to her by her late grandmother. As the newlyweds signed the register, Ave Maria was played in the background, as Rachel’s gran, who couldn’t be there due to ill health, used to sing it with her operatic society.
