Hilary and Alex met through a mutual friend when Hilary moved to London. The couple started out as just friends, but a few dates soon led to love. Alex popped the question after a friend’s wedding in the Cotswolds, and they began planning their special day.
Alex asked Hilary to become his wife as they were lying chatting in bed following the wedding of one of their friends, after they had been together for seven years. The excited newly engaged couple headed to Hatton Garden to pick out a gorgeous diamond ring. Alex was talked into spending an extra £500 on the perfect engagement ring, complete with a ‘compass’ style setting, but by the jeweller, not his bride to be!
Hilary and Alex were engaged for 10 months before their summer wedding in Somerset, which took place at an amazing venue. The maritime-minded couple tied the knot onboard the promenade deck of the SS Great Britain. The wedding, which was attended by 110 guests, had a blue and white colour scheme and the theme was dictated by the unusual venue, with the stationery featuring ship logos and travel themed details.
