Caroline and Andrew’s Colourful Real Wedding

Caroline and Andrew’s love story began when they met through an online dating website – as soon as they started talking, the spark was undeniable and they knew that this was something special.

It hadn’t been a smooth ride leading up to the meeting though, as Andrew had been married before and Caroline had come close but never made it down the aisle.

So they both looked to online dating to see if true love would finally come along – and it certainly did as fate brought them both together!

Within six months of dating they couldn’t wait any longer to move in with each other and then 18th months later Andrew decided to pop the question.

Caroline had her heart set on a ring from Brighton, after living there 20 years ago and seeing the choice of rings on offer in the city’s famous Lanes. So when Andrew suggested a trip to Brighton one day – Caroline knew the big moment was coming!

They headed straight for The Lanes to find Caroline’s dream engagement ring – a stunning 18 carat white gold solitaire. Andrew then took her to the beach for an evening stroll where he got down on one knee to make the proposal official – and of course she said yes!

Shortly after getting engaged however, the couple were rocked with the worst news as Caroline sadly received a cancer diagnosis – meaning that the wedding almost didn’t take place.

Fortune was on their side however, as the early diagnosis and treatment meant that Caroline made a full recovery!

After receiving the happy news the wedding then became a double celebration for the couple – two soulmates joining together to become husband and wife as well as a celebration for Caroline beating cancer.

Andrew was Caroline’s rock throughout her illness and this made her feel even more certain that he was ‘the one’.

Caroline’s Embellished Wedding Dress

Caroline originally wanted a red wedding dress, owing to the fact that she and Andrew were huge Manchester United fans.

However this wasn’t to be, as she ended up falling in love with a stunning ivory dress from Monsoon that was embellished with the most exquisite beading.

This glamorous design also got the seal of approval from her mum and two bridesmaids too.

As Caroline was poorly at the time, finding her dream wedding dress was the perfect pick-me-up. Her bridesmaids were even in floods of tears at how amazing the gown looked!

Caroline paired her dress with a matching pearl earring and bracelet set, plus a ‘Wizard of Oz’ garland that was bought for her by her sister to represent her favourite film.

On the big day, Caroline absolutely glowed and kept her bridal makeup fresh and natural with big and bouncy hair to amp up the glamour.

An artisan beaded hair band was the perfect finishing touch to her hairstyle.

Andrew’s Three Piece Blue Suit

Caroline’s handsome groom Andrew chose a three piece slim fit suit from Slaters in Manchester for the wedding.

The suit was a dapper shade of blue which complemented the red accents of the day perfectly.

His suit was paired with a bold red tie and a red gerbera corsage which matched with Caroline’s gerbera bouquet. The happy pair looked amazing!

The groomsmen also rocked blue suits and all of them wore brogues in different colours for a unique look.

The Vintage Wedding Transport

Once everyone was ready they all made their way to the couple’s venue, The White Hart in Lydgate.

The beautiful bride and 32 of her guests got to travel to the venue in retro style as they all rode in a vintage single decker bus that was pillar box red – very fitting for the wedding’s colour scheme and it made for some fantastic photos.

The whole day took place at The White Hart, including the ceremony where Caroline walked down the aisle to ‘This is the One’ by The Stone Roses, Caroline and Andrew’s favourite band.

It was also a fitting song as it highlighted their shared love for Manchester United – it’s the song played when the team walk onto the pitch and the lyric ‘the one she’s been waiting for’ has significant meaning for the couple.

The bride’s son gave her away at the ceremony as her dad had sadly passed away six years before, she wore his ring though so that he was still with her for her special day.

The ceremony was beautiful and was full of memorable moments, including a reading from Caroline’s nephew who read out a passage from Bob Marley’s ‘He’s Not Perfect’.

After the happy couple said their vows and swapped rings, they made their exit by dancing back down the aisle to ‘Signed Sealed Delivered’ by Stevie Wonder to the absolute delight of their guests.

A Red and White Reception Colour Scheme

Caroline and Andrew chose The White Hart as they felt it fit the bill perfectly, from the rural location right down to the flexibility and the price.

They wanted their colour scheme to be red and white as another ode to their favourite football team and the resulting décor was amazing.

The red details throughout the reception stood out beautifully and made the wedding so vibrant and colourful.

Another deal clincher for the couple when choosing their venue was that they were allowed to bring their own caterers in. So they hired their favourite local pie supplier, the brilliantly named Lord of the Pies, who served up a feast for everyone to enjoy.

Guests got to choose from four different pie flavours, which were accompanied by mash, carrots, red cabbage, mushy pies and a red wine sauce.

This was followed by dessert where the lucky guests got to tuck into treats from an ice cream cart.

A Rustic Themed Wedding Cake

Caroline and Andrew had an absolute show stopper of a wedding cake.

The beautiful cake was made up of three delicious tiers of sponge covered in thick white icing.

The focal flower of the wedding, red gerberas, were used as a pretty decoration to separate the tiers. This complemented the rich red colour scheme perfectly.

To highlight the rural location of the venue and the rustic elements in the décor, the Marks & Spencer cake was perched on top of a tree log slice with wooden laser cut hearts as the crowning glory with the couple’s names inside.

In addition to this, the couple also had a second wedding cake made of fruitcake sponge.

It was decorated to honour Manchester United and featured a cute topper of the bride and groom wearing matching football shirts.

Football Themed Tables

To add even more fun to their décor, Caroline and Andrew gave their table plan a Manchester United theme and decided to name each table after the players.

The bold red table centrepieces consisted of a red charger plate with two vases on – one large one with a red gerbera and one small one with a white flower.

Tables were also decorated with vanilla candles which not only added to the white elements of the colour scheme, but gave the room a deliciously sweet scent too.

As for the wedding favours, younger guests were treated to activity packs and bags of sweets whilst the adults received a small shot jar filled with black Sambuca.

These were used during Caroline’s speech where everyone raised their shot to toast her incredible recovery from her battle with cancer.

A Honeymoon in America

Caroline and Andrew’s first dance was a special moment as it signified the support that Andrew gave Caroline during her illness – they danced to the appropriately named ‘My Hero’ by The Foo Fighters.

Once the evening party began everyone was on the dance floor from the word go – the DJ even commented that it was the earliest he’d ever seen people on the dancefloor at a wedding!

There was also a football table to continue the Manchester United theme which younger guests were delighted with.

Caroline and Andrew were thrilled that the dance floor was filled all night and loved every minute that they spent partying with their nearest and dearest – everyone only stopped to feast on the hot sandwiches that were served as an evening snack!

After their perfect wedding, Caroline and Andrew jetted off for an amazing honeymoon to America.

The destination was chosen as Caroline used to work as an au pair in New Jersey and fell in love with the place. The family she worked for were unable to attend the wedding so the couple thought it would be fitting to fly out and spend Thanksgiving as part of their honeymoon.

Caroline and Andrew hopped between action packed trips to the vibrant cities of New York and Boston to a relaxing getaway at Cape Cod in Massachusetts.
