Akanksha & Anant's Real Wedding - The Traditional Indian Ceremony

The Traditional Indian Ceremony

Anant and Akanksha exchanged varmala, or wedding garlands, during their ceremony and then walked seven steps around the fire of the havankund, to symbolise them staying together forever.  Each step resembled providing prosperity for the household, developing physical, mental and physical powers in order to lead a healthy lifestyle, promising to earn a living, pledges of happiness, harmony, mutual love and respect, expanding their heredity, praying for self control and the seventh step is taken to promise loyalty to one another.

A Sindoor ceremony, featuring orange or red cosmetic powder followed the seven vows of this Hindu wedding and a farewell Vidai ceremony, where the bride is accompanied by her parents and associates to her new home came last.  Before crossing the doorstep to her new home, Akanksha threw back three handfuls of rice and coins, over her head, into the house which symbolised the bride re-paying her parents for all that they have given her in life so far.
