No officiant at the ceremony

So, this is the second time around for both of us. We will get the legal bit out of the way with the bare minimum beforehand. Then we are having a DIY wedding in a big party house. We are still going to have a 'ceremony' in front of our friends and family. Has anyone any experience of this without having a celebrant leading? I don't really see the point of paying hundreds of pounds for something that isn't legally binding anyway, and it would be a stranger. We are making our declaration to each other and our family, not some random.

Why not get a friend or family member to do it? There are lots of resources on the Internet.
