New Years Eve Wedding......Thoughts

Tigsy87, 13 of September of 2017 at 14:17 Posted on Planning 0 16

Hi!

So we are finally getting round to planning our day and are thinking about a new years eve wedding. New Years eve was the date we finally officially became boyfriend and girlfriend. My other half also loves the whole christmas and new year time of year.

We thought it would be a great time of year to bring everyone together for one big celebration and also double as a new years eve party too.

What's everyone's thoughts? xx

Sounds like a great idea, everyone will be off and in party mode. My only concern would be cost and availability of certain things like band, venue, accommodation etc.. all may come at a premium. you could go with one of the days between christmas and New year?

A NYE wedding would be great, everyone would be up for the party.

Unlike the PP I'd advise against a day between Christmas and NYE as a lot of people will either be at work, or have traditions with family etc that they may be willing to forgo, I personally would decline an invite for the inbetweeny days unless it was a siblings wedding.

I love the idea of a NYE wedding, like your partner i love Christmas, my plan 'was' to have a late wedding NYE and no sit down meal just straight into the party and spend the money we saved on really making is a good one.

However we settled on a venue first and when we enquired it was booked up untill NYE 2020.

So if you are planning on it, get looking at venues soon, it a really popular date!

In theory it's a great idea but bear in mind that that time of the year is a very expensive time for people so a lot of guests may decline plus the weather could be awful too.

Yes yes yes!!! One of the loveliest and most fantastic wedding I've been to was New Year's Eve!

We had a Christmassy wedding mid Dec, which was also a lovely time of year. X

This is common in america but not here in the UK, the reason being that its a major celebration and bank holiday period... you may not be able to get registrars or venues (most will have pre-booked tradition as its the biggest moneymaking time of year) or suppliers (many are self employed, who wants to work new year eve and be away from family etc...)

For me a s a photographer I find that NYE is a very popular time for weddings and I personally have no problem with shooting a wedding, perhaps because I only work in the local area and do not have a 3 hour drive home after leaving the bride and groom at 9pm or so, which means I can join my family too.

On the venue side of things I have spoken to a few who say they prefer a wedding over having to organise a NYE "do" and having to get in entertainment - send out adverts and so on and they know its booked months /years in advance and also will have just as many - if not more rooms booked out from a wedding over a NYE dinner-party do to distant family attending the wedding.

The next most busy time is between Christmas and NYE

Thanks so much for everyone's replies. The more I think of it the more I am loving a New Years wedding. I would be planning on sending save the dates out a year before so hopefully it would give people plenty of time to plan/ save. Plus I am thinking of more of a later wedding so hopefully it wouldn't disrupt people too much.

just waiting to hear from a venue I like the look of. Fingers crossed that prices aren't extortionate but I will maybe contact a few key people like photographer and do etc to get costings before we make any final commitments xxx

I’ve been invited to a NYE wedding this year and can’t wait. It will be a fab opportunity to see all my old school friends to both celebrate a friends wedding and see in the New Year. Double celebrations!

Luckily my parents are local to the wedding so I have accommodation and childcare sorted. If planning a NYE wedding, pending location, guest accommodation and childcare options may be tricky so giving them plenty of time to put plans in place. Also to check that public transport is running for those using it to get to the wedding and back.

I would also price check key suppliers to work on that date to check everything is achievable from a budget and supplier availability perspective..

Hi, I do think its sounds lovely! But don't forget that this will be your anniversary every year. It may be costly, in the long run, if you wanted to celebrate.

I also like the idae, but I should agree that you wil have to overpay every year. Also there is a possibility everyone will be able to come to your aaniversaries this day as this is time everyone go somewhere or get together with a family. I have friends who got married on NY Eve. It was a great day! I liked that wedding very much! But every year they try to get all their friends and relatives together, unfortunately, a lot of the guests can't come. Also after 12 o'clock everyone forgets about their holiday and start celebrating New Year ?. Though they've been together for 7 years and are happy together. And I guess, this is the most important thing! So, if you are ready to all these circumstances, don't listen to anyone and make your wedding exactly on New Year Eve. Good luck!

Last NYE my niece got married and asked me to photograph it.....The reality of the day is low light, so photographically it can be a challenge....that said, it was a phenomenal day.....Best wishes with it....

For me, New year Eve was the best plan For the wedding. This was the holiday period and festive atmosphere was all around. For shopping also this was the best season. There were many offers for new year Eve and for Christmas. In this season all people are free from work. Due to holiday season, we can spend much time on shopping and also can enjoy Good offers

    Hi Tigsy87,

Echoing the comments made by many others above, on New Year's Eve I would expect you'd have to pay at least twice as much and up to three times as much for any services provided by people (i.e. your photographer, musicians, waiting staff etc). The other issue you'll have is getting the band you want. Unless you arrange it at least two years in advance you'll find that established experienced bands will already be booked by their previous clients (we just played a Grosvenor Casino on New Year's Eve and they've immediately booked us for next year so we're already not available for NYE 2018).

The other issue might be your guests tiring - a wedding is already a very long day particularly for Kids or Old folk, so partying in to the wee hours might be tricky for some.

On the other hand - you got together on New Year's Eve - that's really romantic and nice to have as a basis for the wedding date.

Hope it goes well and you have a dream wedding.

    cheers

    Dave

I totally agree with your point. It is the most expensive and busy time of the year.
