Can anyone recommend great b&b's for weekends away?

Hi, H & I are looking for places to go for a couple of nights to get away from it all... can anyone recommend any b&b's? we're in the Midlands, so places within a 2-3 hour drive, or else anywhere in the country if it's somewhere close to a train station. We like places with character, don't mind town or country. Budgetwise anything up to £100 per room per night. I'm also looking for somewhere for us to go in December for H's birthday so if you know anywhere that'd be particularly good in winter, that'd be great. Thanks in advance ?

If the Lake District is within driveable distance (I'm so bad at judging geography and how long it takes to drive somewhere) then I'd recommend the above. Lovely big breakfast, comfy rooms, spotless clean, and friendly (if a little overchatty) owners. I imagine good in winter if you've got warm wet weather gear!

This B&B is fantastic, it's in the middle of the Hadrian's Wall area so quite far north, but loads to see and do nearby and about 2 mins walk from the local train station.

Depending on the sort of thing you want to do - this place is lovely. Again, I am biased as my parent own it. But it centrally located to explore places such as Bath, Bristol, Stonehenge, Lacock etc etc. B&B is 5-10 min walk from train station so very convenient. And is on the mainline route from Paddington to Penzance so pretty easy to get to.

Have a look and see what you think.

Not sure if any of these will be suitable location wise:

We stayed here last year and it was lovely - although might be a little out of budget: http://www.holmhouse.co.uk, this is another nice, not so expensive place I've stayed recently: http://theholliesnewark.co.uk/

I haven't stayed in any of the following but all are on my list - I love little boutique guest houses so have a list of 'must visit' that I update and regularly send to H in the hope he will surprise me, sadly he never does so I end up booking them myself ? Some locations might be a little odd - such as Ipswich but we tend to go for nice rooms etc. rather than nice places ?
