Pros and Cons..Camera/Photography related!

Flowmojo, 8 of March of 2012 at 09:52 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 32

So, Mr F has narrowed down hsi choices and wants to get the new camera this wkend..now, i have a question!

2 of these cameras he has selected have viewfinders, 2 do not. Ive never had a camera without one so think its weird not to..is this normal?

What are the pros and cons of having one/not having one? I know in the age of digital mroe and more people simply use the screen to look at the image they are taking but surely just looking at that you cant se finer details?

I asked the dude to be (a photographer), and he said - Viewfinder all the way, its a pain in the bottom if you don't have one.

When you say 2 don't have view finders, do they have the big screen on the back for you to view you photo's but no eye view viewfinder?

The pros to having an eyelevel viewfinder is that it doesn't drain your battery and you can cut any glare out that you would get on the bigger screen on the back.

not to mention that if it's raining, with the eyeline viewfinder, you won't get any on your viewfinder because they're usually protected.

not so sure if there are any cons.

My Olympus doesn't have one, doesn't bother me unless out in bright sunlight.

My Finepix has both but I prefer the viewfinder on this.

I would say if you are buying it for use in taking shots with detail then a viewfinder would be better. a 'snappy' camera as i call them, where they tend to be used for more nights out and opportunity shots, you don't need an eyeline view finder as such.

Mine is the Olympus Tough 8000 - a few years old now:

Think this is the newer version:

I'll ask my OH, Flow, he's into photography. If you see a post from Madscientist, that's him.

I would say on a 'point and shoot' camera nowadays, with the better and brighter screens on the back a viewfinder is non essential. But it entirely depends on the type of photographs he'll be wanting to take, and of course personal preference! What were the 4 suggested cameras?

No worries, I was just trying to get a handle on the type of camera. Basically it's a little more than a standard 'carry in your handbag' point and shoot ;-).

I would have a look at the site below to see if any of the models he's after have reviews, it's generally pretty reliable for opinions.

He used to enjoy the debates and the opinions of Footlong when talking about science etc although he has commented on some of the grooms stuff on the wedding planning bit. I don't think he comes on here very often - at least I hope not! How can I moan about him to you lot if he does?!

    Ski trips? Now I'm jealous!

I don't know much about these models I'm afraid. I have an SLR, so a little more 'hardcore' ?.

I will say that optical zoom is better than digital zoom (it's actually the lens zooming as opposed to a clever computer algorithm scaling the picture; therefore you get better image quality).

    This one

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Olympus-SP-720UZ-Digital-Ultra-Camera/dp/B006UABFQC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1331210094&sr=8-2

does full HD video (if that function is of any use), and 26x optical zoom is pretty decent. Looks like it's not released just yet thought.

    Hello!

I'm more of a lurker who enjoyed taking on the unscientific jargon spewed forth by certain ex members ?, but I'm also happy to contribute where I can. mostly that will be geeky stuff ?.

I mostly like to keep away so I can continue to live in the blissful ignorance that my wonderful OH thinks I'm perfect and would never dream of moaning about me on a forum!

If the meet involves no wedding talk and lots of beer I'm there! ?

Otherwise, best to leave you ladies to it, I'd only be grumpy and put a downer on it, especially if there was rugby on telly ;-).
