    Ideas for unique evening entertainment

I feel like we will be putting a lot of focus on the ceremony eg really nice venue, musician during ceremony, champagne, nibbles etc then we will be moving on to a plainer venue for the sit down meal and evening reception. I feel like up until the end of the sit down meal ( around 7pm ) the day guests will have had a really good time and felt 'looked after' by us....

What I'm worried about is after 7pm when the evening guests start to filter in it seems like they aren't really getting anything exciting if that makes sense? The evening guests will only experience a DJ and evening food and no other entertainment at the moment....

Lse can't afford a decent band and wouldn't want to scrimp and end up with a crappy one...we don't want the 'normal' ideas e.g casinos, photo booths etc ( although I would enjoy them we want something people haven't seen too much before )

We have around 150 (maybe more) in the evening including the day guests so we need something fun but not tacky and cheapish

No wedding I have ever been to has ever included anything more than a DJ or a band in the evening and a buffet. Honestly, with 150 people you are going to have a fab atmosphere & everyone will mingle & chat & dance and have a great time.

I saw a street style magician at a wedding fair (I had always thought they were a bit naff before) but he was totally awesome and left me completely boggled really impressed.  Its a great way to start conversations and he can walk around talking to your guests and doing tricks.

This is what I would like to think but then I just think the evening guests might think its a bit 'meh' maybe I'm over thinking it!

And I think a magician would need to be recommended as some I've seen are very cheesy...x

Its not really entertainment but it gives your guests something to do, but at my friends wedding they had different things for guests to kind of do in the venue. There was a wish tree for people to write messages, they had a polaroid camera (rather then a photo booth!) for people to write a message & place in an album, they had a photo board with years of pictures of them, family and friends inc pictures of the hen & stag do. Everyone was going around having a look, so was an inexpensive way of entertaining them  x

Oooo I like this, simple but effective! We have a pretty big room so would also decorate in a way! X

I agree that I have never been to a wedding where there has been anything other than a DJ or band in the evening and I don't feel like I've missed out!

I find nowadays that me and my friends are so busy we only see each other at weddings and I'm sure there are lots of others like that too.  We don't need entertaining because we are having such a good time just catching up over a few drinks and a boogie.

Even on the one occassion I've attended as an evening guest I didn't feel it was weird.

I'm sure these things are all fab, but I've never seen a sweetie buffet, photo booth, giant jenga or magician at a wedding and I really don't think you have to see them as a necessity.  If on the otherhand you see something that you think your guests will love then go an book it.  But if you have to think about it too hard they are definitely not going to miss it!

Even at weddings with a casino I spent the time with friends dancing. I went to a wedding with giant games and they were being used and were fun but really they are for the day as best used outside. I wouldn't expect more than a chance to chat to friends at a wedding, even nice food and a DJ would be a bonus. You could do table trivia, have a slideshow of photos of you both, Do a dancing competition or something else where a winner could be chosen at the end of the night. Rather than entertainment you could think of interactice activities that will encourage chatter.

This, one thousand times! Everyone will eat, drink and dance. The atmosphere will be fabulous, nothing else is needed.

keep it simple! honestly, no one will think you've not looked after them! In fact the best weddings I have ever been to are the ones with just a DJ. All you need is friends and family to have a great time!!

Be wary of a magician. i went to a wedding where they had a magician/ mind reader type person and it was just so cringeworthy. People just wanted to talk, mingle or dance and this magician prevented it. He went down like a lead balloon

I don't think you need anything in the evening. I'm not worried about my guests having seen something before. Things like photo booths seem really popular on here because lots of people do it, but really, how many of your guests have been to that many weddings with them that they will think 'not this again'.

My mum went to a wedding reception with a caricaturist and she said he was amazing, and nearly everybody had one done.
