Has anyone used Landy Bridal? Flash your Landy dress please x

May2be, 21 of August of 2010 at 22:30 Posted on Planning 0 15

I have been looking at a few different Maggie Sottero dresses and have come across a few of her styles that are advertised on the Landy Bridal site. Was just wondering if anyone has heard anything about this site or has any experience using them as the dresses are around £700 - £1,000 cheaper than the official Maggie Sottero suppliers I have looked at and it seems well to good to be true! x

I've seen a lot of posts from people using Landy, some good comments a few bad ones about the dress not fitting properly and detailing not being what they expected. Bumping a bit for you because I know there are Landy girls out there who can help you out x

Thanks hun. My mum and dad are paying £1,000 towards my dress and really like the maggie sottero dresses but now we have seen 'them' for a lot cheaper my mum said she would be happy to give us the money and I could get it from Landy and use the rest for a break away after the wedding (we can't afford a honeymoon on our budget) but I don't want to be disappointed with the dress I buy as it is really important to me x

Well it would definitely be worth saving a bit of money on the dress and being able to enjoy a lovely honeymoon! Atlonglast got her first dress from Landy but sent it back so she may be a good one to ask x

You need to speak to geordiebarbie. she got hers from there and had no problems. I think Natty89 did aswell and possibly Steelgoddess. hopefully they'll be along soon.

Another idea if you are looking to save money on your dress is sites like preloved, people sell their dresses on there and there are a lot of Maggie ones on there, so you get an actual Maggie for less. Not sure if anyone has tried it x

We have quite a few landy hitchers I think and each person has their own view on it but the majority do seem to be happy with the dress they get. For me I don't like them from the photographs I've seen but then the detail of my dress was extremely important and the china/copy dresses kinda seem to lack the detail in some of the exeriences I've read. Grace (another hitcher) got her dress recently from a landy type place and wasn't happy with the amount of detail so she has sent it back for them to fix and she has happy with that.

It's a risk I think and it pays off for some people so I guess you just need to weigh up the pros and cons. My dress was so important to me that I wouldn't have risked it not being perfect. I might have saved money but I might not have.

    Hello,

As PG said i got my dress from a company like Landy on Ebay.

The dress was very well made but it was too short and there was nowhere near the amount of detail on the skirt as the picture.

I emailed the comapny straight away to say i was not happy with it and they couldn't have been more apologetic. They offered to part refund my money if i wanted to have the alterations done myself or i could send it back and they would do it for me.

I have sent it back with a new set of measurements (which they asked for) and a very descriptive note of what's wrong with it. They have also said that if they can't alter this one they will make me another one.

I would suggest going through Ebay even if you decide to go with Landy as you have that bit of back up if anything does go wrong.

I would have loved to have spent £1000 on a "real" dress but seeing as this was my second (long story but i ordered a dress from a bridal shop, didn't like it when it came) i just didn't have the budget.

I would say go for it because what is £100 wasted if it means you could potentially save £800.

    HTH.

I also got mine from the Ebay Landy shop, not sure what the name was. So glad i did though. You are supposed to pay £60 or dollers(not sure which) for restocking. But as i went through Ebay and paid on PayPal i asked for a full refund including my postage. I was offered a new dress in any design i wanted. But i said no as it was too risky to wait another month with it being so close to the wedding. A bit of umm-ing and ahh-ing from them because of the restock fee and the postage costs. So i told him that i would open a PayPal dispute due to goods not as advertised. I ended up with a refund and got to keep the dress, hoop and fake fur bolero. Wont be using the dress but the hoop is being used and so is the bolero.

    HTH. x

Your welcome hun, anything to help out a fellow B2B.

The sellers name is lihuanru200888, if you do a search for the name they should come up.

I was looking at Landy as well but in the end I bought mine from a lady I found on 1stcallforweddings, I got the Maggie Sottero Rhianna Royale but there's plenty of styles on there.

I was very very lucky as the lady had been selling it for 6 months with no interest so had just dropped the price plus threw in her custom made veil. I paid £500 for a brand new unaltered dress and yes I know I wont be wearing it for 3 years but its the dress I've always wanted and fell in love with when I 1st saw it.

There are loads of disappointed landy brides on moneysavingexpert's forums which put me off

A few people I know bought these copied dresses and all have been poorly made. We took 2 of these dresses to a dressmaker that specialises in bridal wear and she was astounded at the lack of quality in these gowns. The problem is is that unless you know exactly how it's supposed to be made etc you might not notice the difference.

The boning was cheap quality and not enough in to give proper support where needed, They were hemmed in a rough manner, the one dress was duchess satin but it was a really thin quality, the crystals were cut glass not swarovski, the diamantes were in cheap settings, the cottons were not ended as they should be ect etc.

If you love these dresses and one in particular I would definately advise buying the real thing even if it is 2nd hand.

The copied ones hold no resale value either if you decide to sell it on.

Obviously it's up to you whether you bought one or not but is it a risk you are willing to take on one of the most important dresses you will ever buy?

I thought I should reply as I have first hand experience at buying a "China" dress and from Landy.

My dress was amazing - I don't at all think it looks cheap on photos and I had so many comments. My dressmaker thought the material was very good quality - it was a heavy satin and I was impressed how well the stiching and boning was.

It is a risk - but one I was prepared to make. I did in theory have the money to buy a real dress but I actually didn't think they were worth the price tag so didn't want to pay silly money for one. The markup on real dresses is pretty high - as has been proven in the past with people having problems with bridal shops.

I know I was a lucky one - but there has been others in the past who have had fab dresses. Moonpig and Steelgoddes used Your Bridal Wear and their dresses were lovely too.

For me - the Landy process was great - great communication all through the order process and a fabulous dress ?

    Good luck!!

Geordie - i didnt realise you were still lurking around.... When are you going to be over on BT?

I bought 2 dresses from Landy... One from their actual website which was lovely but not an amazing fit. and i bought one from their ebay shop .... asap-bay

I found i had much better communication from the ebay shop and the dress was gorgeous. Much better quality than the one from Landy and it fitted perfectly just 3 inches too long! I was very lucky!!
