Your favourite things about winter

Ohwhatatuesday, 10 of October of 2014 at 08:19 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 31

It's getting cold and dark and a bit gloomy but the start of the colder weather is also getting me excited for lots of wintry things. What do you love about winter? Mine are:

Offers on sweet & chocolate multipacks - in the run up to Halloween and Christmas there's tons of bargains.

Festive things in December - dressing the house, mulled wine, mince pies etc

Hats and scarves - I love them

Fireworks displays

Getting to wear comfy knee high boots all the time

Christmas lights going up

I love the cold. It means I can break out my faux fur coats.

when Dec is here, and people stop moaning at me for talking about Christmas.

    The chance of snow.

    How early it gets dark.

I love a proper, crisp, cold, snowy winter

    Wearing my duvet coats

having my range of scarves, gloves and mittens strewn around the house

Dec 21st, when the days start to get longer again

    Christmas!

That Spring will soon be upon us

What I don't look forward to is the washing - ends up everywhere

Battles with H2B over heating and lights - he's a miser lol

I love it when it snows (but not too much else I can't see my parents - they get stuck out in the country)

Being a bit cold, so I drag the duvet downstairs and snuggle in

When I'm cosy indoors, the weather is bad outside and I know I don't have to go out in it

    Definately everything about Christmas

Well this winter - the fact that I get married ?

Lighting the wood burning stove in the snug in the Yorkshire house. A bottle of red wine and the quilted throw all wrapped round me. Fab.

I'm not an Xmas day fan (I find the actual day sad as I miss relatives who are no longer with us) but I like shopping for people's pressies on the one for you one for me basis.

Going running on a crisp winter's day. none of that sunny sweaty malarkey.

Christmas tree and trimmings. London in winter has a magical feel to it when all lit up - apart from Oxford Street which I try and avoid like the plague which is a pain as Oxford Circus is my nearest tube for work.

I was born in winter, met my OH in Winter, got engaged in Winter and will get married in Winter so obviously something about the season agrees with me. But funnily enough I also suffer from S.A.D so have a blue light that I have to put on in a morning for 15 mins to ward off depression.

Boots and gloves and hats, mainly. And my fringe staying in place and not getting all sweaty and frizzy. But generally I just function so much better in cold weather - I just loathe and detest being hot. Last year it didn't get anywhere near cold enough for my liking - I'm hoping for below zero this year.

Oooh I love being wrapped in a blanket + movie/book + mug of something warm.

Cuddling H to warm up because in the summer it's too hot.

Jumpers, boots, hats and warm coats.

    Soup and stews for dinner.

Christmas and all the twinkly sparkly lights and decorations everywhere.

I do not like that 'tis the season to get ill.

I love all the warming stodgy food - the broths, stews etc.

I love that if I'm too cold, I can put on another jumper or double up on socks. In summer it's too hot to do anything and I can't cool down easily.

Christmas Smiley smile I love seeing the shops all lit up and decorated.

I love suggling up with my dogs and watching soppy Christmas films on telly.

Knowing the Christmas is on the way, I LOVE Christmas.

    Frosty cobwebs in the morning.

Those cool crisp days where it's zero degrees but the sun is sinning and the sky is blue.

    No wasps!

Winter food and drink like mulled wine and roasted chestnuts.

Going to bed at 7pm and it feeling completely acceptable.

    Having the fire on.

    Cuddling more to keep cosy.

    Boots and tights.

    Hats and scarves and gloves.

    Putting the fire on.

    Parties & festivities.

    Mulled wine.

    Fresh snow.

Having on lights on other than Xmas tree lights and then sitting and enjoying their glow.

Bearing in mind l don’t like winter then quite a bit!

Food that is stodgy and naughty e.g. crumble, roast dinners, soups, risotto etc (especially Christmas)

Coats –l have a bit of a coat obsession

As you said Pammy67 Dec 21st, when the days start to get longer again

    My hair being less frizzy

Lying in bed and it being dark. My sleep isn’t great so l find light nights and morning annoying

    Getting new boots

I love being able to wear big comfy clothes, scarves and hats.

Warming comfort food like cottage pie mmm.

    Christmas, obviously.

Christmas lights. We live fairly close to an award winning lit up house which looks incredible.

Long lie ins on cold Sunday mornings as it is far too cold to leave the bed Smiley winking

Also love not feeling guilty for being out. When it's lovely and hot outside I feel bad for being in front of the TV.

    Oh so many things!

Wearing skirts with chunky tights and knee-high boots

Eating all my favourite food: beef and ale stew, tartiflette, sausage pumpkin & sage casserole, crumble etc

Making and wearing big chunky scarves, hats and gloves

The annual battle between me and H2B about how long we can have the heating on for

The days when the sun is shining and there's a pale blue sky but it's fabulously cold

Going for walks with crunchy/frozen leaves underfoot

Sitting in front of a roaring fire in a pub with a bottle of red wine

Drinking Belvoir apple, plum and cinnamon cordial, warm, with a glug of brandy in there too

    Porridge for breakfast

Getting ready for Christmas, starting to look for presents, finding the best Christmas cards, making mincemeat and then mince pies a few weeks later

Mulled cider, homemade sausage rolls and mince pies when we decorate the tree, accompanied by Elf on the TV

Christmas itself, I bloody love Christmas

So so much! This thread has made me all excited!
Wrapping up warm and going out for a walk.

    Wearing scarves and hats.

Eating lovely winter type foods - casseroles, pies, crumbles etc.

    My onesie!

Getting dark going home from work.

    Putting the gas heater on.

Getting the electric blanket on the bed.

Days off that we can spend cuddled under blankets watching movies.

    Hot chocolate.

    Snow.

Coming home and having a hot bath and putting my pjs on.

    Fairy lights!

Those amazing mornings where it is freezing but so bright and sunny.

    Wearing my boots.

Run up to Christmas - Christmas markets, shops all decorated, putting the tree up, writing cards etc.

Christmas Eve and Christmas itself, love it.

    Fireworks. Bloody love them.

Big cosy jumpers. Boots. Hats, scarves and gloves. Being tucked in cosy at home when it is horrible outside. Christmas stuff with my Mum- generally the only time i bake these days. Always prefer going out out when it is darker earlier as the night seems longer! Oh and having a log burner this year, so cosy!
