What words and phrases do you overuse?

Ohwhatatuesday, 21 of January of 2014 at 21:27 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 31

I was in a meeting talking to someone today when it occurred to me I said 'to be fair' about 90 times in the space of two minutes. It's one of my most overused phrases. That and 'do you know what I mean' at the end of almost every sentence. I say them so much it even annoys me, let alone the people around me. I also use cool and awesome far too much (I think i'm stuck in the 90s).

Do you have any words or phrases you know you use too much?

I'm fairly new at work so ask lots of questions, whatever answer I get I say lovely thanks. My overuse of the word lovely is doing my nut by only catch myself saying it after its already said!

I say 'really?' a lot and realised I say 'insane' to mean something is good. It was only when I was with my 16 year old sister at the weekend and she said it that irealsied that's probably where I picked it up from

I think I say "like" quite a lot, and "do you know what I mean"? is my go-to phrase when I'm explaining anything. Other than that not many. I say 'positive' words sarcastically quite a lot - "Fantastic." "Brilliant." "Excellent." and so on.

I say 'to be fair' a lot too. OH says 'if you know what I mean' a LOT! Once he was talking to me about something serious and said 'if you know what I mean if you know what I mean'. He didn't even realised he'd done it until I started to smirk and giggle

"Essentially" - I started using it to replace basically (advice from recruiter when in interviews) and unfortunately cannot stop.

Yep, "to be fair" is a regularly used one fropm me too (even when it blatently isn;t actually fair. "To be honest" and "At the end of the day" also feature very highly too (but then, to be fair (!), I do spend a lot of time during my day explaining things to people).

My favourite word at the moment which I use pretty much all the time in relaiton to good things is "amazeballs". It's my replacement for cool, lol x

To be fair, really and no problem. Those are the ones that spring to mind...

Its not something I say but really can't stand it when people say 'no offence!' normally after saying something horribly offensive.

I say "shut up" way too often. But more Princess Diaries than TOWIE.

I also say "like" too much.

I overuse "Oh my god" and "thank god" way too much. And I don't even believe in god/gods. I've been trying to change it and instead saying "oh my word" or "oh my goodness". SD says "Oh my days" but I think that sounds a bit ghetto and not something that you would expect to come out of my mouth.
