Is anyone thinking of getting married in Gibraltar?

starynightsky, 5 of March of 2013 at 13:37 Posted on Honeymoons & Getting Married Abroad 0 8

Hi All

Having just got married in Gibraltar

If you would like any information or recommendation please feel free to ask me

I can recommend great accomodation and a truely fab photographer.

As well as giving you all the information you would need re actually getting married.

I searched and searched for information about getting married in GIb and I could find very little that was not companies offering to do it all for you!

It all seemed rather complicated to me but it is actually as easy as could be.

A fabulous destination to get married

I have partnered a company that specialise in great value travel and the same for accomodation for Gibraltar based weddings. They are the leading operator for Gibralyar travel out of the UK

Drop me a line if anyone wants to know more.

    Hi Starynightsky,

We're considering getting married in Gibraltar in September (Registry office). Having looked into the details, it seems pretty straightforward to organise yourself, the only thing that's worrying me is witnesses. It would just be the two of us, and it would really worry me having to rely on flagging someone down off the street. For this reason, I'm leaning more towards using a wedding planner (Sweet Gibraltar weddings) purely because we'd have guaranteed witnesses.

The wedding planner are charging about £250 more than it costs to sort it yourself, so I was just wondering if you had any ideas of how to get around this. Did you have friends/family present that acted as witnesses?

Also, where did you stay? Torn between The Rock Hotel & Caleta.

    Thanks :-)

    Hi Starnightsky

We are planning to get married in Gibraltar, hopefully by the end of September. We haven't booked anything yet since I am an Indian, and my fiance is Greek.

We have been trying to find information on Visa applications, especially which visa to apply for (British, or Schengen visa or both). I tried contacting the British high commission in India but they do not have much of idea. The Gibraltar official website says that Indians need to have a valid passport, but do not speak anything about which Visa is acceptable. I am dying for this information, and it would be great if you knew someone who could help me out with the applications.

    ?

Hi, I think the visa would depend on if you intend to live in the UK (or Gibraltar) afterwards. If you do not plan to do so, you would need a Marriage Visit Visa. If you are going to live in UK, you would need a Fiance visa. You have to get the visa first. Or if you want to go by EU law instead of UK law (it's a longer path to citizenship), you would get an EEA Family Permit, but I don't think you can get that until you get married. So, first you need to decide whether to go by UK or EU law. If you do not have permanent residency of the UK, you might only be allowed to use the EU path.

My husband is from the USA and had to have a Fiance visa to marry me in the UK. I only have British citizenship. A couple of years ago hubby naturalised as British, so now he is dual.

Oh one other thing. The EEA Family Permit is free. The UK visas are very expensive. But what with Brexit coming up... Note the UK has a minimum annual income requirement to sponsor a spouse of £18860.
