How often do you treat yourself?

Panjita, 29 of February of 2012 at 12:59 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 41

I've just been to take some clothes back and ended up buying a watch, an eyeshadow palette and some perfume. None of it was expensive stuff (spent £30 in total!) but feel like I've had a real treat. Makes me feel happy.

How often do you give yourself little treats and what kinds of things do you spend your spare cash on? I'm talking mainly to the fellow skinto's out there!

Edit with flash of the watch

Far too often. Generally spend my spare cash on Hello Kitty shizzle I don't really need.

Although, I bought 2 new pairs of Hello Kitty shoes the other day, I NEEDED those, honest. I bought them ready for the summer (if we get a proper one this year)

ETA, my shoes were a bargainous £3.50 a pair ?

Usually on pay day. Yesterday I spent £40 in boots on hair stuff and make up (it is stuff I have ran out of) I have also bought a dress (£9 in sale!) and a blazer. That is me done for the month now........................... probably.

I very rarely treat myself - would you class paying £83 to have your hair cut and coloured as teating yourself? I pay a bit less normally but I had to have full head highlights this time round. My mate pays £48 just for a cut at Toni & Guy!

Anyway I always feel good about it when I do but I still have to justify why I am spending the money but I do it by asking myself how many times will I get my wear out of it, and is it something I really need. I've always been the same though. I think I would still do it if money were no object.

Probably once a month-ish - not massive things - a new pair of shoes, bit of make-up or something nice for the flat ?

I don't class buying makeup or having my hair done as treating myself, in my head these are essentials in my life, like buying loo roll - Does anyone else feel like this?

I don't treat myself very often at all. Last week though I got a bath bomb and a fresh face mask from Lush and had a little pamper evening at home. Bath, candles, downloaded a tinkly spa music app onto the iPad. It was lovely!

    Planning to repeat this week.

Very, very rarely and then I always feel guilty about it when I do! The other day I ordered some bits of make-up from Superdrug - only spent about £25 altogether, having not bought myself anything for months - and feel awful about it. Very silly.

No... if I run out of make-up my life carries on!! But then I don't wear much on a daily basis. I also don't get my hair done very often either!

Do you think you treat yourself less regularly once you've had kids?

I think my priorites may change but I think it is also still important to look after yourself... so it may reduce but I don't think (finances dependent obv.) it will stop.

If I run out of mascara/foundation/moisturiser/face wipes they needs buying. In fact I tend to replenish stocks before they run out so I am never without essentials.

No I'd definately class them as treats. My hair would be fine if I didn't cut/colour it - but my if I didn't pay my rent/bills life would not be fine! I'd class make up slightly different in that I feel I 'need' it like shampoo/soap etc. but I class it as treating myself because I choose to buy high end and expensive, and new things when the ones I already have will be sufficient!

Yes. I treated myself a lot more before I had kids. Now, if I treat myself, I treat them to twice as much. Mummy guilt.

Once a week at the least. I like shopping. It's usually just things like shoes, furniture, pretty things for my house, clothes or pottery that I collect. May need to stop the treats for a few weeks if I decide to buy another car next week though.

Im the same...as a child my parents nicknamed me 'Noahs Ark' as I always had 2 of everything instead of 1!

I treat myself now were not saving for the wedding. In the last 2 weeks Ive bought - nails inc polish £100 (I know its alot but I bought a couple of collections & a nail repair kit because Im stopping gel nails for a while - my own nails are all split & peeling.

Ive also bought this blazer hunted it down after seeing it on Sam Friars on Towie. Cant wait for it to arrive, I hope it lives up in real life! It was £70 but I got a 20% discount code. Website is Room 31.

That will be all my treats for this month. I usually buy myself a few things a month. The blazer is the most expensive thing Ive bought in a while though - I get bored of clothes v quickly.

I see make up and hair cuts/colour as treats, probably as when weve went through hard times i had neither-but always had food, shampoo etc.

im starting to treat myself a bit now im earning a bit more money, i think having children does cut down what you spend on your self but i enjoy treating the kids as much as myself.

I have my hair cut and coloured every other month, HD brows done once a month and other beauty treatments for special occasions, nights out etc. I did used to have shellac nails every 2-3 weeks but I have now bought all the stuff to do my own at home to save a bit of cash. I buy clothes/shoes/handbags/things for the house at least once a month, depends what I am doing that month and how much spare cash I have and replenish make up/moisturiser etc when it is due to run out.

I don't class clothes as an essential but I do class getting my hair done and make up as one, but obviously a lower priority than bills, food etc, I would never be short of money to pay bills or eat in order to have my hair done or buy a new mascara !

I definitely do, purely because of time and money, but when I do get my hair done or buy something pretty for myself, it feels more special than it did pre-children, so I enjoy it more.

    Rarely.

Things like the cost of the hairdressers, cosmetics, nail varnish, perfume etc are built into my business budget, work clothes and shoes are planned purchases and tend to be pretty classic. I factor in the cost of alterations for some high street stuff. I don't tend to class them as treats as it's necessary for work - I can't rock up with awful roots, chipped nail polish and scuffed shoes.

I don't buy magazines, chocolate or music very often. It's been ages since I've bought anything to wear specifically for a night out or similar. I tend to put money to one side in order to buy the things I really want rather than frittering it away.

I don't tend to treat myself. I buy little things here and there for the house and treats for H, but i don't like buying myself things. There's always something else that it needs spent on.

H made me get my hair done last week because i had mentioned that i'd need to do something about it, so i guess that's the last time i 'treated' myself through H making me do it.

Rarely. But when I do I tend to have a splurge during a week... Like this week! I always shop online and try to find bargains but then by the time I've bought from a few sites it soon adds up. I hardly ever get my hair cut... maybe like 3 or 4 times a year ? (I trim my own fringe) I would love to get it done more but can't seem to justify it. This week I've bought quite a bit from ebay and matalan for holiday and a few bits for the nursery and pets.

Really rarely and it drives my OH up the wall, but he could spend for Britain if he was allowed! At the weekend, I bought myself a lovely spiral plate thing that now sits proudly on our coffee table, but before that I honestly cannot remember. I have been wearing the same work clothes for years, the same weekend clothes for years. I hate my wardrobe but just never have spare cash. I think it's partly because I put money away every month for the wedding and I also have envelopes which get filled up on payday. I have one for the car, one for the house, presents, emergency etc. About £100 gets split between these which I suppose I would have to spend otherwise, but I like knowing that in April for instance, when we have a lot of family birthdays, I already have a little envelope of money that I can use.

Once a week at least! This week I bought all of my Elemis products ready for my mum to bring over in 3 weeks so that was a big treat! Today I bought a new pair of flip flops and some daytime sandals.

I agree with Claire that for me getting my hair done isn't classed as a treat, it's something I have done regularly for the past 10 years and will continue to do so. I don't really treat myself to much, maybe once every month or two. I am more so at the minute with the wedding and honeymoon coming up as I need bits and bobs for that.

When I have children I'm sure the treats will be less regular, I will still get my hair done though Smiley winking

I treat myself regularly, at least a couple of times a week, and to varying degrees.

For anyone on my facebook you will know Friday is Cuocake day - which is usually a cupcake from my local, fabulous cupcake shop which isn't cheap but is fab.

There is also barely a week which passes when I don't purchase a little something off of ebay - we were extremely skint last week after buying a lovely new car but I still squeezed in the purchase of a pair of bargainous shoes from the Dune outlet on ebay, and some Yankee candles (Both are essentials right!?).

I don't see hair/make up/waxing as a treat but do see a facial/pedi/manicure because that is a bit of pampering.

I see my weekend takeout as a treat - in that I look forward to it all week and could easily cook but decide not to.

I've also got an addiction to next - I don't think a month has passed since I moved here when I've not ordered something, and Itunes gets me every week too!

I treat myself probably once a month- I tend to spend about £50 on some clothes or make up or more often than not something for the house. I feel horrifically guilty if I buy myself something though which takes much of the fun out.

I count my nails and eyebrows as an essential and factor it into the household budget- hair is a luxury but is done by a friend more often than not- the £80 at a salon is for weddings/xmas/bdays only.

I also consider wine to be an essential. There is a section of my food budget allocated to it.

Last year, I was treating myself every week. Meals out, new clothes etc. Now I'm frantically trying to pay my credit card off so I can start saving for WP so I now treat myself properly maybe once a month, on or just after payday. Usually a new item of clothing. Then during the month I'll maybe get us a takeaway, or buy a few songs on iTunes, or rent a DVD.

Me and husband share money and i'd say when he is home he spends about the same as, if not more, on himself as treats. His treats are Xbox games/points etc, DVDs, clothes and undies, trainers (which sound like an essential, but he will buy a pair every 6 weeks at least!) and currently lots of weightlifting stuff (another phase!) so very different to mine.

He doesn't partake in Friday cupcake day, because he eats something naughty most days when he is in the UK and able to get hold of it!
