Planning Your Wedding in Iceland {Thomson Weddings}

by Caroline@hitched

Your destination wedding doesn’t have to be on a sun-drenched beach – if you love the idea of a Frozen wedding day with spectacular scenery then consider a wedding abroad in Iceland. Thomson Weddings share some of their favourite locations for a wedding in Iceland.

The Blue Lagoon Venue

Iceland’s famous geothermal lagoon is like nowhere else on earth. It’s nestled in the heart of the countryside, among lava fields that wouldn’t look out of place on the moon. The water itself – which hovers at a toasty 37 degrees Celsius – is extracted from 2,000 metres underground, and is full of minerals which do wonders for your skin. There’s an in-water bar, where you can get the likes of sparkling wine and beer, plus a spa area, where you can treat yourself to in-water massages and facials. If you’re looking for a wedding venue that gives you the true Iceland experience, there’s nowhere better.

Seljalandsfoss Waterfall Venue

For an out-of-this-world backdrop, choose Seljalandsfoss for your big day. This waterfall cascades down a rock face for 200 feet, surrounded by emerald-green meadows. Choose to say ‘I do’ here and you’ll make your vows with a spectacular waterfall backdrop. Your reception will take place at a venue of your choice. Go for one of Reykjavik’s cosmopolitan restaurants and you can share warming Icelandic dishes with your guests. Then, kick your honeymoon off with a luxurious soak in the country’s famous Blue Lagoon.

Thingvellir National Park Venue

If you’re looking to tie the knot in the middle of the Icelandic countryside, this is a great spot. This World Heritage Site encompasses sprawling lava fields, the country’s biggest late, and a ridge zone where the North American and European tectonic plates meet. The scenery is so impressive, that the location scouts for the Game of Thrones chose this place as the backdrop for a lot of the action. You’ve got a few options when it comes to the exact spot where you say your vows. Opt for the water’s edge, where you can say ‘I do’ looking out over the lake, or choose to have and to hold inside the church, or by the site of Iceland’s first parliament.
