Spotify Reveals The UK's Top 10 Wedding First Dance Songs
Whenever I go to a wedding, there is always one thing I try
and guess – and that’s the first dance song. It’s one of my favourite parts of the whole day because whichever track is chosen by the newlyweds is a representation of
them as a couple and it's such a happy and romantic moment.
Another thing that adds to the excitement and anticipation is that every couple does it differently, some have a funny dance
routine, some learn a posh waltz, and some just enjoy a slow dance to their
Spotify has released the UK’s 10 most popular ‘first dance’
songs to give you some inspiration if you’re stuck for a choice.
Here is the whole countdown…
Ed Sheeran – Thinking Out Loud
I am so not surprised to see this
man at the top of the list. Thinking Out Loud was a phenomenon of a song and
broke records, spending a whole year inside the UK’s top 40. It can reduce even a macho man to tears and that's saying something.
Etta James – At Last
This song is incredibly romantic
and full of emotion. It was recorded all the way back in 1961 and is still your
second most popular wedding song. What an achievement to still be so popular in 2016. I love old music, it's my favourite era and she is one of the best singers of all time.
John Legend – All of Me
This is the modern day love song and took the UK by a storm when it was released.
John Legend wrote this song about his fiancée Chrissy Teigen, and sung it to
her during their nuptials – how romantic.
Lonestar – Amazed
If I had to have one song on this list at my own wedding, it
would be this one. Lonestar himself has admitted he feels pressure when
performing this song live as it is such a popular wedding song for many
couples - but don't worry Lonestar, I think you do a fabulous job!
Jack Johnsosn – Better Together
This song has a cute melody and was written for a special
woman in Jack Johnsons life. “It was really just a song that I wrote for my
wife. The love songs always start out for her.” – My heart is literally melting
as I’m typing…
Al Green – Let’s Stay Together
Scarily enough, this song was almost never released because
Al Green despised the so called ‘thin’ sound of his falsetto – we thank our
lucky stars that he saw the light because it truly is a stunning song to listen
to - and to dance your first dance to.
Christina Perri – A Thousand Years
Twilight fans and loving couples everywhere will be able to
appreciate the pure emotion that oozes from this song. I can completely see
why so many loved-up pairs want to enter their new marriage to this particular track.
Adele – Make You Feel My Love
After just headlining Glastonbury, it is safe to say that
Adele has become our nation’s sweetheart and her talent for singing/songwriting is unarguable.
She is so well known for portraying situations of love and heartbreak through
her music and this song is about as love-felt as you can get.
Jason Mraz – I’m yours
Jason Mraz told The Sun that the song is about “generosity.
About giving yourself or your time to someone or something else.” What better
way to represent a marriage? I can’t think of one…
The Goo Goo Dolls – Iris
If it’s good enough for Avril Lavigne’s first dance with Sum
41’s Deryck Whibley, then it’s good enough for us. This song is such a classic
and can mean so many different things to so many different people and I think
that is the beauty of it.
If you want to treat yourself to even more first dance song
inspiration, Spotify have also created a list of the top 50 first dance songs
including the likes of Train, Michael Bublé and the king, Elvis!
Be sure to check it out – but if these aren’t funky enough
for you, we have a very interesting list of unusual first dance songs that you
will not regret listening to!
What’s your song of choice? Let me know,
