Barony Castle

Barony Castle is a beautiful mansion house built in 1536 and set in the heart of the Scottish Borders.  It is surrounded by 25 acres of formal gardens and woodlands. Our most recent discovery at Barony Castle is our outdoor 16th Century stone altar, nestling quietly at the bottom on a natural yew tree drive, it is quite simply a stunning location for any outdoor wedding ceremony.

Arriving is just the first of many special experiences. As you wind up the driveway, past a field of young Alpacas, the mansion house comes into view: tall white towers, perfect architectural symmetry, gently fluttering flags. There can be few settings as elegant, or as romantic.

This house has always been a place of indulgence and extravagance. Once home to Sir Alexander ‘the magnificent’, the castle was renowned for its banquets and hosted many notable guests including Sir Walter Scott, Adam Smith and Dr Johnson. These days, the historic beauty and warm welcome remains as strong as ever.
