While many girls consider their wedding dress to be one of the most defining aspects of their big day and some men may think the same of the transport, most brides and grooms are likely to be in agreement that the most important factor in a wedding is the venue at which it takes place.

It was almost unheard of 50 years ago for couples to say their I dos anywhere other than at the altar of a church. But, with registry office weddings paving the way for people to move away from church buildings, other locations have become increasingly popular as a result.

People are becoming more adventurous with their wedding venue to the point where choosing between an indoors wedding versus an outdoors one often sparks heated debate.

But what are the ins and outs of each type?

Nowadays, it is possible for couples to get married wherever they like provided it is legal and they have the right authority present to join them in matrimony. When it comes to ceremonies indoors, traditional church weddings are still a favourite among many, while registry offices and town and city halls are also popular.

Couples even have the option to get married in grand castles, luxury country estate manors and even their own home, as any wedding can be beautiful with the right decor and atmosphere.

A beautifully decorated garden that is rich in plant life and flowers could be the perfect setting for an outdoor wedding. Similarly, the scenery provided by nature at beaches, lakesides and mountaintops also makes these kinds of locations truly lustworthy to many brides and grooms-to-be.

But any couple that are brave enough to organize such a bash should bear one very important thing in mind: what if it rains?

Considering we live in the UK where rain is always a possibility, the likelihood of having the elements wreak havoc is strong - particularly so if the wedding date is during autumn, winter or spring.

If the thought of a wet wedding outdoors is not too off-putting, there are various ways to limit the overall effects rain can have. For example, erect a canopy adorned with elegant garlands and flowers that both looks good and provides shelter from the rain.

Of course one way for couples who are hell-bent on marrying outside to evade the rain is by going abroad. Various tropical beachside resorts offer wedding packages that cater to brides, grooms, the wedding party and all the guests. And, not only do those involved get to enjoy a beautiful wedding, they also benefit from a relaxing sunshine break away.

Moreover, brides and grooms could even find themselves saving money amid wedding planning for this kind of thing as the location can double up as their honeymoon.
