Not all of us have unlimited budgets for our weddings (in fact, most of us don't), so any tips that one can get to reduce wedding costs are more than welcome. A major expense during wedding planning is the cost of the wedding cake. As most bakers charge according to per piece, with prices starting from £3 per piece and going up to £15 per piece, the entire cost of the wedding cake can add up to a small fortune (depending on how many guests you are expecting).

Check out these cost cutting tips for wedding cakes, which we have put together for you. These tips will help you to have the cake of your dreams, without you having to spend that small fortune.

1) Buying the Cake: You can either buy your wedding cake from a baker or order it with your caterer. If your caterer has the type of wedding cake that you are looking for, then it is cheaper to order the cake with them instead of from a separate baker. This way you will save on extra delivery and set up costs. As your caterer is already going to be paid for organizing your wedding meal, they may be more likely to offer you a discounted rate on wedding cakes, as opposed to other bakers.

2) Order from a Home Business: Ordering a wedding cake from someone who works from home is another great way to cut costs on the cake. Those who have a home business have lesser overheads and business costs, which mean that the cost of the cake will also be cheaper.

3) Serving Other Desserts: Cake cutting is usually done at the end of most wedding receptions. Serve some more desserts with the meal that are cheaper than the wedding cake. This way, you will need to order lesser cake and can thus cut costs.

4) Have Two Cakes: Order a smaller, but fancy and elaborate wedding cake, which your guests will see and which will be cut. Order another similar sheet cake that will be cut in the kitchen and served to the guests. Since the sheet cake will not be cut in front of your guests, none will be the wiser, and you will end up saving a great deal of money on your wedding cake.

Having a friend bake your wedding cake, decorating the cake yourself, using fresh flowers instead of sugar flowers, are all more ways to cut your wedding cake costs.
