Add a personal touch to your wedding cake

On your special day you want everything to be just right. As all eyes are on you and you hear the “ooos” and “aaass” of the guests as they click their cameras to capture you in all your glory, wouldn’t it be nice to know that they capture all the special touches that make your wedding memorable. It’s therefore worthwhile spending time on the main elements of the day, and one of the most snapped features in any wedding is the cake. So why not think about adding a personal touch to the design and presentation of your cake and make this feature stand out from any other wedding cake you or your guests have seen.

Wedding Cake Toppers
The traditional bride and groom is still very popular today however, why not add something that says a little more about you as a couple and offers something different whilst contributing to the memories of the day.

When choosing a cake topper for your day, think about what interests you: do you both play sport, do you enjoy travelling, do you have a much loved pet, is ‘bling’ your thing, are you chocolate lovers or sweety pickers, movie addicts or beach babes…? Bespoke toppers can be made that reflect your personalities and it’s a great way to add a real personal touch to your cake.

Considering the style of your wedding should also help when choosing your topper. For outdoor wedding parties why not go for a sugar monogram decorated with delicate vines or flowers? Flower Power
Using fresh flowers that match the wedding bouquets and colors is an easy way to decorate your cake and looks very effective. Or why not try edible flowers? Take a picture or flower along and ask them to create some examples for you to taste and view.

Photo Cakes & Cupcakes
Photograph cakes are a great way to personalise your wedding treat. Using a picture printed on icing sugar, many cake makers are able to create cakes to be used as the top tier or individual cupcakes. Or, you can create a real family affair by having the bride and groom on the top tier and the parents of both on the other layers! This is a lovely way to remember the mums and dads and would be a lovely surprise foe them if you kept it as a secret!

Using individual cupcakes as centre pieces can look very effective and you can add a personal touch by having pictures of the couple on them. They can be romantic: when the happy twosome first met, or fun images: bouncing baby pics or memorable moments in their younger years! You can be very creative here and can really add something different to your day!

Individual Place Card Cakes
A great way to personalise your wedding and give your guests an added extra is to have small individual cakes as place cards. Names can be iced on top or on sugared tags tied to the treat. Very effective and adds a real wow factor to the tables!

For personal messages, ask your cake maker to add a message to the cake to say thank you for being part of the day. This is a lovely way to thank the wedding party or little ones who attend the day!

Colour it Beautiful
Wedding cakes don’t have to be white or ivory. You can add your favourite colour or stick with your wedding colour theme and have something a little different. From duck egg blue and spring time yellow to vibrant pink or chocolate brown, you can colour it in whatever you like by adding as much or as little as you like.

There are lots ways you can personalise your wedding cake for your day. Consider what’s important to you and what would reflect your personalities or the theme of the day.
