Robyn and Martin first met when Martin came into Robyn’s shop to buy a sofa. When he had it delivered it didn’t fit, which resulted in him going back and forth to the shop to try and sort it out.
One day Robyn’s colleague Nigel said to him: “If you’ve got designs on our Robyn, she might like to go out for a drink with you.” Upon hearing that, Martin jumped in his car and drove off! Undeterred, Robyn ripped his address off the order form and posted him a note…
The couple didn’t get engaged as such – they were having lunch at The George in Rye one day and fell in love with the building and the town, which looks as though it’s come to life from an old story book! Robyn told Martin she’d love to get married there, so he asked the wedding coordinator for the next available date.
It was five months away to the day, so they booked it! Three months before the wedding Robyn finally got her engagement ring. It was an art deco style ring with a round brilliant cut diamond and two tapered baguettes on the shoulders. Robyn found a design she loved and Martin’s goldsmith friend Mark Adam made it for them. Martin picked out the biggest diamonds to go in the ring, and presented it to Robyn in a beer garden when she came back from a girls’ weekend in Ibiza.
