Alexandra and Matthew met in a bar in Bristol City Centre. After five years together Matthew went down on one knee and proposed to Alexandra as they both completed the New York marathon – the fourth marathon they had run together. Matthew had kept the engagement ring hidden away in his I-pod holder strapped to his arm throughout the grueling and freezing 26.2 mile run. Matthew had had the ring especially designed from scratch – with a platinum band tapering into a princess cut diamond with two sapphires either side – Alexandra’s favourite stone.
Keeping this special day in mind, Alexandra and Matthew named the tables at their wedding reception after different milestones of the race, with the top table being named “26.2 Miles – The Finishing Line, Central Park”.
