Flat coke for a dicky tummy? Fact or fiction?

*ginni of the lamp*, 21 of August of 2008 at 09:45 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 18

I have a churning stomach and keep burping up sulphur. Mr G swears by flat coke. Do I need to haul my sorry frame out to the shops for coke, or is there a better way?

I don't drink fizzy drinks in general (a legacy of my dentist mother, who wouldn't allow such tooth-rotting evil into the house), so I have nothing else I could substitute like 7-up, ginger beer etc.

The GP at our surgery recommends it for children with the trots.

My GP recommended it to me when I had food poisoning. Apart from helping it put me off the stuff for life, if I drink it now it automatically reminds me of the feelinf of food poisoning ?

I use it for cleaning particularly fouled bits of firearm.

I'll only ever drink it when inebriated.

Know people who swear by it though.

Works a treat for me - and doesn't even need to be all that flat.

It was the only thing I could keep down for 4 days last year when I had food poisoning.

Thanks guys. I don't think it's food poisoning, I hope not anyway, as I've been doing all the cooking ?. I don't have any agonising cramps etc, I feel OK apart from my pit-of-hell breath and the squits. My nice in-laws are visiting, and they've all gone out today for a day out and a meal without me (boo hoo).

It was always flat lemonade when I was growing up. I'd never heard of flat coke as a remedy before.

It was recommended by my friend's doctor when she had food poisoning - I had to take her fresh supplies

Good substitute for Diaoralyte - loads of sugar and a fair bit of salt, I think. Certainly something I use when recovering from D&V

When my OH had the Turkey Trots on holiday a few years ago a local gave him full fat coke and a fresh banana and it really worked wonders

Full fat flat coke or ginger beer or lemonade always works for me when I'm poorly.

I hardly ever drink fizz normally but it was also one of the few things that stopped me gagging when in first trimester.

    Get well soon Ginni ?

I think Dioralyte would be better - only thing that cured my H of the dreaded Norad virus last December but my Mum used to give me 1/2 & 1/2 coke & water when I was little to rehydrate.

I'm sipping flat coke, and I feel a bit better, at least my breath smells of coke now instead of sulphur. Thanks for asking?

    Always works for me.

Pepsi was invented as a cure for dyspepsia (hence the name) - the idea of it being a tasty drink came later.
