  • Do you all love your child name?

I never settled on a girls name when I was expecting c and I kept thinking of girls names then fell pregnant again so kept on thinking of girls names and now I have a girl and I feel I have picked a name I liked that week iyswim, though I had effectively 4 yrs thinking of a girl name and came up with nothing better, but I really wobble about it at times and actually rarely call her her real name and call her nick names more. Loads of people ask about pronouciation and spelling which I didn't want in a name and tbh I never thought it would be a problem for people to say or spell but it appears it is

She is 15 wk now and is obviously registered and I wouldn't change it but I feel down when I think of it really and wish I had come up with better, though the ones I liked h hated so this is a happy compromise butit is a compromise And I love C's name but feel sad I don't love my girls name

    Am I the only one?

How do you get over it?  Especially as this is my last baby

I do love them, however I do love my son's name more than my daughters but only because my daughter's is more popular than we realised when we picked it. This, on reflection, is not really a good reason at all, however, I do have the same moments as you when I think that I could have come up with an even better not so popular one.

For what it is worth I had a quick double check back and I Love the name you picked, it was on my list too x

I have just remembered that I posted something similar after A was born. I must have fallen in love with her name not long after I posted about having a wobble about it cos I soon forgot. It was only this post that reminded me Laugh

So basically, even if you don't love it now, you will grow to!

Yes, with Elliotts name I loved it from when we chose it when we were expecting him, it has special meaning as it was my maiden name.  With Oscars name, I ummed and ahhed (on here alot!) but H loved it so I said ok, as I did like it, but now I love it!  I love the way their names sound together too.  People have commented that they have nice names and that they sound nice together too.

I love it now. Dawn to me was always a dark haired name. Fortunately she was born with loads and loads of dark hair. I loved Jessica but H hated the shortening Jessie so vetoed that. I loved Isla too but didn't want a name that was really popular.

We were never completely sure on the boys name so glad she came out pink x

Thats the same with n I said a girl called n would have dark hair and she came out with loads of dark hair so prompted that name

Thanks everyone for your experiences glad I'm not the only one, suppose if I'd not had to consult h I would have called her something different which bugs me if I'm honest

I like it, but don't love it. It's an inoffensive name & flows nicely. It suits him, he is a Liam xx

I love all of mine but for the first few weeks I thought I had chosen the wrong name for E and thought she was a Sofia (her middle name). She is very definitely an Eleni now though!

I was just looking at Jemima today and smiled, thinking how much I love that little girl's name and got this rush of love. I also thought I will NEVER find another name I love so much for any other children. I'm proud when her name comes up on the electronic board at the docs and when she's crawling round Gym Babes with my name's Jemima on her back. I love, love, love it.

Love Mummy to Jemima - January 2011 - 10 weeks early at exactly 30 weeks Love

Before C was born I adored it. As soon as my H showed an interest in it, I clung to it and fell even more in love with it - I was devastated every time he had a wibble. Once he agreed to it, it was weird, I kind of went off it, but knew it was what we had to call her as we had NO other name. On the day she was born I had even bigger wibbles and thought we should have called her by one of her middle names. But now I've gone back to adoring it. It's so her.

HW - that's so me. I am totally in love with A's name. It's like it's the best name in the world Love
I love C's name but honestly not as much (feels really hard to write that?)
BUT I know H slightly prefers C's name. He suggested it first. As I suggested A first.

I didn't love J's but I do now. I think I was so in shock at coming round from GA and being presented with a named baby (even though we had discussed it first), I begrudged not having the final say. Now he completely suits it and I really love it now. Not that I would admit it to H as it was his choice and I want to have more say next time!

I love Alexanders name, I would have been devastated if H (tried to) vetoed it, I honestly can't beleive every little boy isn't called it. I do wish I was braver and pushed the shortening of Xander more than Alex though.  EmbarrassedWhen it's just me and him I often call him Xander in the hope that he'll prefer it at some point.  He's not even 9 months, so it's a long game I'm playing! Laugh

We decided on a girls and boys name before we found out the sex at the 20w scan.  I relented to H's choice for a girl - Katherine/Katie/Kate/Kitty. I'd been trying for ages to think of a name like Kate, or more in 30 years time would be today's Kate IYSWIM, but couldn't think of one (probably due to the lack of a time travelling device) so agreed to it when it was the name he professed to love as much as I do Alexander, but was secretly thinking that I'll have 20 weeks to find a name I love and convince H if we find out it is a girl, and this way I get Alexander if it is a boy!

I'm already sowing the seed for Nathaniel for a second boy, which is the only boys name I like anywhere near as much as A.  There are still no girls names that I love, and I think this is the main reason I'd love another boy.

    Baby boy A May 2011
