Does anyone else watch this? I've only seen two episodes but it's my new guilty pleasure.

Just seen that it's out on DVD just in time for Mother's day - perfect!

I watch it! Absolutely love it! The episode with the breech birth had me weeping! As a midwife we very rarely deliver any breech babies naturally in my hospital, so to watch that, and know they were doing it as it should be, was utterly beautiful. I got the books last year for my birthday but didnt like them. But the tv show is really good. The eclamptic fit the other night brought back some horrible memories, but there is nothing like the feeling of delivering a baby. Such a privilege.

I hope you aren't implying she was delivering babies in the 50s mini!?!

Lmao!! I'm only 38 you know!! You girls make me laugh :). I didn't like the books because I didn't have the attention span to read them. Mini, it's like someone buying you a book on gas/electricity!! Reading is relaxing for me but reading about my job isn't!! I'd recommend them to others' though as it would be interesting for you, just not me!!  Obviously I wasnt a practising midwife in the 50s but some of the things in the show are still in use now, ie the pinards, if our hand held doptones aren't working I'll use that to find the FH (fetal heartbeat). I love CTM but hate OBEM!!

I love it but I dont know if I should be watching it... I certainly wouldn't have watched Sunday's with the eclampsia if I'd have known, but once I was watching I couldn't stop. It is fascinating to see how far things have developed though.

I love it too. I cried last week at the older man whose baby wasn't his, it was so moving. Miranda made me laugh in that episode when she said to the other midwives "Do you think he didn't notice?"

Brilliant programme,i have really enjoyed it. The book is pretty good as well. I have been watching it with my dad as he always babysits on a sunday night for me. He finds the 50's London bit pretty realistic.

The bit that he commented on was the one were the lady had a baby that was obviously not from her husbands loins. It is exactly how is best friend was born but he was shipped of to Barnardos.
