  • Engaged for three weeks and already addicted to hitched

    Hi All

Just wanted to introduce myself as a new b2b. OH proposed on holiday three weeks ago and have been having a ball since. Planning to get married in Essex somewhere in 2013. We have viewed one venue so far and have a couple more booked in. So not doing bad. I'm so impatient I want to go and see everything now so we can get a date booked but OH tells me to chill lol. How many venues do you think we should see? Did you get that feeling and know your venue was the one when you walked in? Apparently Essex has more wedding venues than anywhere else in the country so lots to choose from, although from the brochures I have ordered alot seem to be mega bucks! Any venue recommendations for me near Chelmsford?

    Thanks

I can't help with venue options as I live no-where near, but wanted to say hi and congratulatiuons.  Hitched is so easy to get addicted to.  We looked at about 6 venues (all the main ones in our area) and decided after that which we really loved and which suited our needs and guest list numbers.  Good luck with all the planning, the time will soon start to fly by.

Hi! Welcome to Hitched!! I'm also completely addicted to Hitched- so many useful hints and tips and as I'm not getting married till end of Dec 2013 it great reading and talking wedding stuff (everyone else has switched off now until closer to the time!!)

With venue I knew as soon as I walked into the first place that it was right for us. We then looked at another few venues but nothing measured up so we bit the bullet and booked it rather than waste our time, and the venues time.

Enjoy looking round them though- it's exciting planning and imagining how the wedding would be. It's also nice to have the special treatment (complimentary champers and canapés) when looking at venues.

You don't have to chill!  We only got engaged on Christmas, and by mid-January had appointments to see all the places I'd shortlisted off the internet, and then paid the deposit after seeing only 3 (the second one was my dream venue and the third one was just to make sure).

Of course now I find myself wondering what else I can do this early and basically the only thing is photographer!

Can't help you with venues, but does Essex have a council wedding website?  I know Kent does, and they list all the places registered for civil ceremonies.  That's how I found mine!

    Thanks all

I hope to find the venue soon, looking forward to my viewings on the 11th. I hope we get a feeling about one too Miss P it will make the decision easier. It is so much money to spend (and our budget isn't huge) I feel like I dont want to compromise on anything, whether it be that I'm not sure about the welcome drink, or a diogy choice of carpet in the ceremony room. Hmmm maybe I am going to be hard to please.

Glad I'm not the only impatient one venart, I think the OH just wants me to enjoy the experience and not rush into anything. We have been together nearly 8 years so I think I have been fairly chilled HAHA.

I'll see if Essex has a simliar website thanks!

ooh i'm in essex this weekend i'll ask the MIL2B for any ideas as shes not TOO far away...only in Chigwell :)

  • Re: Engaged for three weeks and already addicted to hitched

    Welcome to hitched!

    It's addictive isn't it?

I'm from Essex (Colchester) and I got engaged in November and set a date for 21st Sept 2013. We have settled on our venue, got church pencilled in, deposit on car and am looking into photographers at the moment. I just couldn't wait to sort things! TBH, looking into the venue we wanted took the longest as it's a large chunk of budget so lots to consider.

We settled on Crabbs Barn in Kelvedon ((clicky thingy))
but also looked at Vaulty Manor near Heybridge and Goldhanger and The White Hart in Great Yeldham, as well as getting loads of brochures for Channels in Chelmsford, Warrens Golf Club, The Reid Rooms in Chelmsford, Layer Marney, Spains Hall, The Coach House; Marks Hall near coggeshal, Braxted Park... loads. You're right there are lots of places to choose from!

    21st Sept 2013

    Hiya

Welcome and congratulations on the engagement. Exciting times!!

This place is SOOOO addictive but full of great advice and support.

2013 is ONLY next year so there is no need to chill. If you want something then it seems you NEED to book early these days. I'm already taking bookings for 2013 and even 2014 so it's never to early!

    Enjoy the planning

    Nat

Hello, congratulations and welcome to the VERY addictive hitched.

Im not from your area but i can assure you the time will soon fly by and your wedding will be here before you know it.  My OH proposed on Christmas Day 2009 and we got married on 10 December 2011.  The 2 years went by so quickly.

I would recommend starting to book things now.  Happy wedding planning!!

Any venue recommendations for me near Chelmsford?

    Thanks

Finally nice to see a B2B from Chelmsford. My parents live in Chelmsford so I'll be getting married around there somewhere. My top choice atm is Layer Marney Tower or Crabbs Barn. My mum went to see Crondon Park with my Sister when she got married and said it was lovely! I haven't been to see any venues yet. How far do you want to travel from Chelmsford as I have brochures from EVERY venue in Essex (I like being organised) I've put a few aside because they are around an hr away which was a bit far as I'm travelling from my parents house.

    Hope I have/can help =)

p.s. congrats on the engagement. This site is very addictive. I spend more time on here now than I do on FB lolz

    Hiya Lannyb27

Welcome to hitched and congrats Wave

It's so weird to see new hitchers on here now saying how excited they are and members of their families telling them to chill.  This was me when we first got engaged.

The only advice I can give is savour every moment, don't let anyone patronize you (especially suppliers) and do what YOU want to do.  Too many times I went in a flower shop in 2010 (got engaged 2009) and was told 'oh you have ages yet what are you looking now for?'  Ignore them.  Get a scrap book with all different samples of stuff.

The original venue we wanted don't do weddings anymore so it's a good job we didn't put a deposit down.  We have had to change the colour scheme 3 times and I am regretting my choices of BM's more and more.

No matter what anyone says it WILL fly by!!!  When I first came on here, my ticker said something like 2 years, 9 months and 3 weeks and now look at it Surprise

Just remember it is NEVER too early to start planning, get ideas, go to bridal fayres, make scrap books etc and remember us girls on hitched are always here if you need someone to share excitement, wobbles, rants etc.

    Good luck hunny

    xxxx

    Thanks again everyone

Stoice Crabbs barn looks lovely, and only half an hour from me, not sure I managed to miss it. I may well look there if my viewings this weekend don't work out.

Future Mrs Negus congratulations to you too, and very nice to see another B2B in te Chelmsford area. Ideally we want to be within half hr/45mins of our home (which is in the center of Chelmsford). We have been to see Crondon last weekend and have Channels, Three Rivers and Newland Hall booked for viewings this weekend. If we don't fancy any of these we will start looking further afield I guess. I too have a million brochures I have put alot to one side because of the prices... For example Boreham House was something ridculous like £16,500 on  a Saturday and that was just food and venue hire you still need to do drinks, dress, TOG etc. As much as I want it to be brilliant day there gets to a point whereI am not prepared to spend the same as the deposit we put down on our house just for one day. Luckily Essex does seem to have venues for all budgets.

EMJ85 I will defintiely be scrapbooking - hope you have a fab day in 3 months time

Essex brides espically keep my updated on your plans and if you hear of any open days, fairs etc.Or of you ahve attended weddinsg at nay of the places |i listed above i woudl ove to hear your feedback.

I have been to Essexweddings at Stock Brook -Billericay, Smeetham Hall Barn - Sudbury and The Fennes in Braintree if anyone wants an opinion from a guests point of view :)
