  • Just starting out...

    Hi all,

I got engaged on Saturday, and I'm wasting no time in getting my plans underway!! I've had a good look around on here and it seems to be a great site for sharing ideas, I'm so excited about the whole thing I could probably burst!!! Big Smile

It's starting to hit me now how many decisions there are to be made, and even things I thought I'd decided before when the whole wedding subject was hypothetical are now totally back up in the air, has anyone else found this or did you stick to your original ideas?

Hello and welcome to hitched! Wave

Hi Babypink, welcome to Hitched and congrats on your engagement!

I have been engaged for about 4 years now (only been properly planning for about 18 months) and I would definitely say my ideas have changed massively along the way! It really helps to have a forum like this to see other people's ideas and this has definitely shaped how I see our day coming together!

When are you thinking of getting married?

  • Re: Just starting out...

Hi and welcome to Hitched. Congratulaions on your engagement, I think alot of people once they start looking at options change from their original ideas. I think mainly because when you start looking, internet, wedding fayres, Hitched etc you become more aware of whats out there.

    Anyway happy planning x

  • Re: Just starting out...

I'm hoping for early next year, possibly end of March or April. We started going out at the end of March almost 3 years ago so I think that would tie in quite nicely for us, and also in my OHs group of friends there are already 3 weddings taking place next summer so I want ours to be either before or after the summer months. I was a bit worried that 12 months might not be long enough to plan it as most people we know have taken 18 months to 2 years to plan theirs, but I was speaking to a friend who gets married in May and she said she thinks it will be easy to do. We've just missed wedding fayres at all our possible venues though which is a shame!!

    Hello, welcome and congratulations!!!

stupid darn ticker never works!  Now it is just plain lying!!

  • Re: Just starting out...

congrats on your engagement!! have you thought about a date yet?

As stazzle says its quite common for you to change your mind on things, especially when you start looking around and gathering ideas deciding on colours/themes etc and dont feel bad if you do deviate from what you thought would be your 'ideal' as often as little girls growing up we have this idea in our heads of what our wedding will be like etc and whilst its nice to keep some of those childhood dreams alive its not always possible or like we have said we just simply change our minds.

You will find the ladies on here are lovely and are full of tips advice and a shoulder to cry on if need be.

    goodluck x

    Congratulations and welcome to Hitched.

We only got engaged at christmas and we have booked for 26th Feb 2011.

The only thing i was slightly worried about was finding the venue. A year is enough time to plan everything else especially with the help of all the other Hitchers.

Congrats, I got engaged 1st March seems ages ago now.

Ive been very busy since then. I had a colour scheme, date and everything in my head but thats all changed since I started looking into things.

Dress choice for instance the particular dress i have fallen in love with is nothing like i first wanted. The simple, straight design i planned on did nothing for my figure and didnt feel special enough. The colour of the dress im looking at is Taupe which doesnt go with colour scheme i had first imagined.

I would love a late spring wedding but I suffer from Hayfever and dont want it to spoil my day so late summer it will be. Good luck with all your plans

hi and welcome! i got engaged at christmas and we are getting married may 2011.

i wanted a pink theme for my wedding and havent changed this at all......certain other ideas ive looked into and then disregarded but it's all part of the fun i guess. but this site is great for sharing and picking up ideas definitely. i am having loads of fun with all the research and tbh i don't think there is a set time for doing anything so it's all good! xx

Congrats! Depends v much on where u live and what kind of venue you want, i got engaged in August 2009 and im booked for May 2011. Most of my local venues are booked for 2011 but there there is very limited choice locally. Do some phoning around to feel your way for availability.

oooo lucie what date in may 2011 are you? i'm the 21st!

  • Re: Just starting out...

Hi and welcome.  Before you get too excited about flowers and dresses please sit down with you OH (other half!) and see what you can afford.  Also ask family if they are contributing.  Budget first, then decide dates and venues around that.  There is no point looking at castles in August if you can only afford a hall in feb (no offense to anyone! but hopefully i get my point across!)

    OM since 8-9-10

this is good advice......and also worth chatting about what you both actually want most ie priorities.....i went off on a bit of a tangeant tbh when i first got engaged looking at this that and the other weddingy type things only to then find that certain things i was dead set on having, H2B didnt care about etc etc and vice versa....luckily we agree on most things though!!! xx
