  • Recs for nice first toy/teddy/comforter type thing please

I know the baby will probably get lots of toys and teddies as gifts from other people, but I want to buy something for him that we have chosen. We've already bought him this: http://www.babiesneedgifts.co.uk/products/?id=228&indirect but it's more of a pram toy.

I want to get him something that he can have in his cot when we are in hospital and for it to be his special 'first' thing IYSWIM?

    What did/will your babies have?

sarah has flat cow from mothercare but he is huge (in comparison to her!) so just sits in her cot really although she has started pulling his tail until he is sat on her head! She quite likes her taggies comfort blanket although also isn't bothered if its left behind IYSWIM!

We bought both B and R rats from Ikea as toys for their cots, B had a grey one and R has a white one (H is a biology teacher so he thought it was appropriate!).  They are lovely and soft though, if a little weird looking in the cot!

When I was pregnant with L we flew to Spain & on the way back we purchased a set of cuddley turtles(both different colours)and when he was born we gave one to him & one to his big sister. Since then my nan has got him a lovely blue soft bear that plays music (from mothercare). Recently we got him a slumber bear as he wouldn't settle in the cot at night & it works like a charm

This range of toys is fabulous http://www.justjellycat.co.uk/Browse-by-Type/Bashfuls/c-1-310-341/

Henry was given a 30cm Mouse and it feels very soft and cuddly - it was as big as him.  We bought him the little monkey as somthing to hlod when smaller.  Have to say though when he was little he used to hold the mouse's tail Fluffy Here he is at 3 months clutching him for a cuddle.

Have to say we do buy them as gifts now, they go down very well!

G has loads of soft toys but the one she takes to bed with her is a little bunny from Baby Gap, she has a yellowy one (and a white one for emergencies) but they also do pink and blue, a lot of her little friends seem to have the same one.

We have this little bunny too though I haven't really started using it with J yet. Now he is grabbing onto things more, I am going to introduce bunny at bedtimes I think. We have bought a second as back-up!

Zoe has a Boris from M&P.  When we realised how attached she'd become to him I scoured Ebay for an additional 3 so now we have a little collection.

Apologies for lack of capital letters - Zoe has stolen my shift key Huh?

Matilda had a baby swan (our surname) in her cot. Fluffy

I don't let her play with it though!

She's not really into cuddly things but god forbid I put her to bed without a muslin to hold. I bought her a taggie but it doesn't cut the mustard.
