  • How were YOU born?

We talk a lot here about our experiences giving birth, but Handbag's post on another thread about how babies are born not affecting how they grow up got me thinking.

Do you know how you were born? Early or late, vb or section, straightforward or more complicated?

I was apparently two weeks late and born in a nursing home rather than a hospital, but I don't know any more than that (my mum isn't around to ask so this is as much info as I'm going to get)

  • Re: How were YOU born?

I was born by elective section under GA on Christmas Eve 1974!  My mum picked my Birthday.  She could have chosen 23rd 24th or 26th December.  I'm glad she chose 24th.

I was a week late born in hospital, labour was 2 hours from start to finish natural delivery  !

  • Re: How were YOU born?

I was born vaginally however I was an extended breech (had my feet around my ears).  My mum had been sent to the big hospital a couple of weeks before I was due because they were trying to work out whether I was one or two babies due to the odd way I was lying.  She was kept in for 2 weeks and then I was born.

She can't remember if she was overdue with me, but was 2 weeks overdue with my sister and due to a mix up was given a double dose of pethidine.

Apologies for lack of capital letters - Zoe has stolen my shift key Huh?

  • Re: How were YOU born?

I was born at about 39 weeks, a spontaneous labour with a vaginal delivery in Kingston Hospital.  I don't think mum's labour with me was too long or hard, I am her second child.  Her first was fairly straightforwards too.  It was my mum's third delivery - my brother - that was complicated.  She had a cord prolapse; he was born by crash section and spent the first while in SCBU needing quite a lot of support.

Two weeks late, in hospital but my Mum tells me 'I was so easy' (after my induced Brother)

(Having said that, she did tell me she was so tired that when she heard me crying in the night, she pretended to be asleep so the Matron gave me a drink, I think of water - hence why I slept through immediately)

    ETA, I was 6lb 11oz

  • Re: How were YOU born?

I know I was induced about 10 days early - I was breech upuntil they turned me  (can't remember what the process is called E??) which is why they induced my mum because I kept turning back! I was born in South Africa on the 8/3/83 and weighed 6lb 9oz!

  • Re: How were YOU born?

I was due on FA Cup final day. My Dad was not impressed and said if Mum went into labour she would be going to hospital alone.

The Cup was a draw and I was born on the day of the replay!!! So, 4 days late. No pain relief and within about 3 hours of waters going. Completely different to my birth then!

Dad also missed it as he got a flat tyre dropping my big brothers at my Nan's house!

  • Re: How were YOU born?

I know i was 2 weeks late and my mum was induced but thats all i know - might have to ask her more details! I also know she stayed in hospital for 10 days which was standard in 1977.

Only when i was pregnant did i even think to ask if we were breast fed or not (we all were) where as for some reason MIL volenteered the info that H and his brother were both bottle fed.

  • Re: How were YOU born?

I was 11 days late ... born vaginally without pain releif (well im assuming so otherwise i am sure i would know about it!!!) I think i arrived pretty easily...but my mum had alot of bleeding afterwards and for a long time afterwards too-i created alt of problems x But then i was the 5th child... born to a 36 yr old mother in 1979 so i think* that it is all relative (my poor mum)

  • Re: How were YOU born?

I know that I was born vaginally and 5 days late. I know nothing more, other than it was the first day of Wimbledon that year so my mum was glad she didn't miss much of it!

  • Re: How were YOU born?

I was born on my due date, 4 hours labour, all natural, no pain relief and easy peasy and according to my mum, it didn't hurt at all.Eek I'm a one and only though, so my mum's memory of this may be somewhat hazy.
It was, however, the only Monday my dad had worked in about 25 years. That'll teach him!Laugh

I was very jaundiced though, and my liver couldn't be bothered to work, so we were in hospital for almost 2 weeks, but I think that length of stay was pretty standard in 1984 anyway.

  • Re: How were YOU born?

I was born at 39+0, mum started having contractions at about 11am, transferred to the hospital at 6pm and I was born shortly before midnight (the MWs had bets on whether I'd be born on 5th or 6th!). She only used G&A and had really bad back pain and gave birth to me lying on her side with the MW holding her leg in the air!! When the MW handed me to her the first thing she said was 'ooh its a baby' and the MW relplied 'Were you expecting kittens?!'

I know this because every year on 5th February I get a barrage of text messages saying 'this time x years ago I was...!'

I was born 2 weeks late and my Mum was induced (I think she said she had actually gone into labour anyway the night before but they carried on with the induction the next morning). Inductions must have happened somewhat quicker then as she said all the other women had their babies by lunchtime who were induced by I hung on until the evening. She had an epidural.

I think she had about a week in hospital as that was normal then.

I was 4 days late and born in hospital after a long labour.  After I had George I got my Mum to get a copy of my bith notes.  My Mum was giving pethadine far too late and I was born shortly afterwards.  As a result I had some breathing difficulties and needed oxygen at birth.  It was really interesting reading the notes.
