    Hi,

We're going away at Easter & it has only just occurred to me that the house we're staying in is about a 15 min drive from the train station. We don't drive & there isn't a bus the goes past/near the house.

I know you can take babies/toddler in pushchairs into black cabs as long as the break is on/they are strapped in etc... But what about minicabs???

I can't believe this didn't occur to me before! We do have access to a car seat that we could take, but would involve me taking it on the bus, with toddler & pushchair & bag to get to the train station. All at 25 weeks pregnant with number 2! Doesn't appeal...

Are they allowed in minicabs without a car seat? It's not safe is it? I'm answering my own question aren't I? I'm going to have to take the car seat aren't I? Aren't I?

I have this dilemma too - we are going to Spain in July and like here, car seats aren't required in taxis/minicabs.  But what about safety?  I'm so worried about it but don't know what I can do.

So we don't have to have one????

Gosh! Says the child may travel unrestrained in minicabs. Sounds so dangerous! Surely it woudl be better to sit them on your lap & put the seat belt round them than use nothing???

I think I'll haul the car seat along with me!

    Thanks

some taxi companies will have one you can borrow if you call ahead i think - might be worth having a quick ring round the local firms an enquiring.

We're waiting for our new car to be delivered so I've been getting taxis to take Leo to the childminder. I asked a taxi driver about it and he said that they don't have to have a carseat. Leo just sits next to me in a seatbelt.. It's not ideal but when you can't cart a big carseat around with you it's one of the only options I suppose.

Thanks loobyg - That never even occured to me. I will def try that first! (& actually, as it's a small village, it's probably wise to pre-book a cab anyway!)

How old is Leo, laylolil?  Chase is 4 so I can easily take his booster seat with us but Romilly is only 2 and her car seat is huge and vey heavy.  There's no way we could take it with us and I'm sure a adult seatbelt would sit on her neck.

He's 19 months (but about the size of a 2 year old Laugh) I put the belt across him as normal and then the shoulder bit I put under his arm pit rather than on his neck iyswim? I really don't like doing it if I'm honest but when there's no other option (or the other option is a complete pita) I'm happy(ish) to do it. He actually sits really still in the seatbelt.

We did a 10 min journey to the airport with t on my lap, strapped against me at 2. In a minicab. It was horrible and I would do anything to avoid it again, but understand needs must. Luckily it was only a short trip, but I won't be doing it again in a hurry.

Please don't put the seatbelt around yourself and your child.  If you do that and there is an impact not only will they have the impact force but also the force of you pushing them against the seatbelt.

I would ring ahead and see if there is taxi firm can provide a carseat.

Apologies for lack of capital letters - Zoe has stolen my shift key Huh?

I would ring ahead and see if they have a car seat you can use. Personally there is no way I would let J in any car/taxi without a proper carseat - I would never forgive myself if anything happened.
