  • Any tips for putting on socks and shoes with a bump?

I'm finding it increasingly difficult to put my shoes on in the mornings if Mr L isnt there to help me and I wondered if anyone had any magic tips?

Once the weather gets better I'll get a few slip on pairs but at the moment I'm still in a lot of ankle boots, lace up trainers etc.

I find that I can't breathe for the few moments I'm bent over pulling them on/tying laces and then I get a bit dizzy when I get back up which isn't good!

Looking forward to summer for sandals and slip ons!

    Sleep in your socks? Laugh

Sorry, that wasn't very helpful was it?! I had some Vans Trainers that just slipped on, so no need to do laces, is it worth getting some chunky trainers for those occasions? Could you wear ballet pumps instead?

i stopped wearing socks at about 6 months and wore slip on shoes! i got so hot when I was pregnant that I didn't need socks anyway! I did get to the point where putting pants and trousers on was hard too - having to bend to your feet to get them over your feet! it was slightly easier lying down as there was less pressure on the bump!

i have to sit on the bed to put my socks on feet at the same level shoes I can still do but find the stairs helpful.

I always wear boots/ trainers so i have to do laces or zips.  I don't do sandals!

I have to sit on the bed to put socks on as well.  I also have slip on trainers so no laces to do up.

I find it easier to sit down then bend your foot towards your lap so you're not bending as far over and you're not as doubled up and not having to not breathe whilst you're doing it!

I am wearing trainers & have to admit that I don't bother to undo/do up the laces so I can just slip them on (real slummy mummy). Once it's warmer, I'll live in my flip flops like I do every year from about April/May until September.

A more helpful suggestion is what others have said - sit on the bed & bring your foot up onto your kneee to put socks on.

Get you H to do it for you! Laugh   (if he is around)  That is what i used to do, it was a real struggle otherwise.  I woud sit on the edge of the bed, hoist my leg up and put my ankle across my knee and try and put my sock on one handed whilst supporting myself with the other.  I remember it being hard work.  I feel your pain x

This is something I am really struggling with!  I find it I stand up and put my foot on the bedside table that makes it easier!  I am an OT to trade and am tempted to borrow long handled sock aid from work!  We give them out to those who have had hip replacements and are not allowed to bend for 8 weeks!  I bought a long handled pick up stick from ikea to save on bending and that is handy, you can use it for pants and trousers too!

FOr about the last 3 weeks of pregnancy i got H to do it as he was off work but before that i found sitting on the stairs was the easiest way - so i would sit on the 2nd or 3rd bottom step and could then bring my foot up a step to get shoes on - not sure if that makes any sense but worked for me.

Another one here for sitting on the stairs/bed to do this!

I never had such a massive bump that I couldn't do it or my toenails, but I did sort of put my leg to the side of me to put my socks on when I was sat down on the bed as that made things easier

I resorted to Birkies or Crocs, if I did need to put on socks or proper shoes I think I sat cross legged on the floor, took quite a while though as I couldn't breathe when I bent forward Laugh

I had a mind once, now I have small children.
