  • Your first Mothers Day as a mum.....

Just a pondering really - up till this year we've always spent the day with my mum (my brother and sister are younger than me and don't have children) and it seems to have been assumed by everyone that this year will be the same but i suppose i was thinking maybe of spending my first mothers day as a mum with just H and A.

But now i'm wondering if i'm being mean to my mum if we don't go over there? i can see us ending up spending the day driving between ours, my mums (45 mins away) and MIL (20 mins in the other direction).

Just wondering what you all did and if it was different from before you had your LO's?

Its my first Mother's Day as a mummy too, and we're using it as a perfect opportunity to NOT visit the rentals (2 hours away) for a change. This includes them not being allowed to come to us either. Ths applies to both my parents and the PILs.
Although I appreciate not everyone will have the same relationship with their mums and I do with mine.

Our plans involve me, H and O, the F1 grand prix on the tv and lots and lots of trashy food. Oh, and me not doing ANYTHING (H and O have specified this Laugh).Big Smile
    Bliss.

Last year was my first Mother's Day. The boys were 6 days old. My mum was here helping us settle in and my brother and his family came over too. It was lovely to have the whole family here. This year they are all going to be here again S it will be 2 days before the boys' first birthday and we're having a little party. I'm really looking forward to spending Mother's Day with my whole family. It's a celebration of family life for me. X

my first one Eleanor was still in hospital so people had to come to us and I don't think they did.  The hospital SCBU staff did some lovely things for us mummys.

my second one Eleanor was on childrens ward again people had to come to us!

this year we're going away for the weekend so it will be the 3 of us.

Yes it was different than before LO's. I went to New York with my sister. Im my defence we booked the flights & hotel 6 months before, without realising it was mothers day weekend.

This mothers daya I will see my mum but she is 5 mins away. H wont see his becuase she is 4 hours away. Generally I think if you can you should still see your mum.

For me, becoming a mum myself has made me appreciate my mum more, so we would still do something with her.

Do you know, it's awful but I can't remember my first "as a mum" mother's day and B is only 3!  This year I'll have two for the first time, but I doubt very much that I'll be allowed to have just my family, my mum will have to be involved somewhere whether we like it or not.  We were allowed one Christmas on our own  when we first were married but that caused so much sulking it just isn't worth it anymore.  Still, I suppose she is my mother so I'll have to smile sweetly!

I'm going over to my mothers with T. Mr K and J are probably going to watch some ice hockey in Manchester. We never really do anything other than cards and a nice meal at home anyway.

My mum would be really upset if i didnt see her on mother day x

  • Re: Your first Mothers Day as a mum.....

On my first Mother's day as a mum, me, my son, my brother, and my parents went out for a meal together.  It was really nice because being a single mum it was really thoughtful of my parents to organise something.

In the years since OH and I have been together he (we) always organise a meal for the three of us, my parents and brother, and his mum and husband (although sadly he passed away last November).  Most years OH's sister and her partner come up as well.  It's always a really nice afternoon.

Don't get me started on this year though, it's a very touchy subject!

  • Re: Your first Mothers Day as a mum.....

Well mine will be really different, I haven't spent a Mothers Day with my mum  in about 10 years.

So this weekend we happen to be away with all my family, so my mum will get to spend Mother's Day with all her three children, the first is years.

Part of me would have liked to have the day with just M and I, but this will be so much nicer. A very rare event!

E was 4 weeks old last mother's day. H took us out for a meal, and surprised me but having invited my parents too, who were away on holiday at the time but came back for the meal. Was lovely and so pleased he did it as another happy memory for us all.
