George loves trying to sit now, and I am half tempted by the bumbo, but part of me wonders how it can be good for such little babies?  G is 4 months and I guess must weigh at least 14lbs by now - according to the guidance it would be OK for him but I'm just not sure...

    Anyone know about them?

I think they are fine as long as you are not dumping him in it all day, which I am sure you wouldnt!

A used her for myabe a hour a day, 10-15 mins a time, was handy if I was washing dishes etc as she would sit on the worktop (not adviced obviously!) and watch me or look out the windows.

Ah OK, I guess a time limit makes sense.  He seems to really enjoy being sat up on my lap - he's quite a nosey little thing Laugh   I just thought since we've got the good crib mattress and make sure he's not in the car seat for too long etc., I should check whether the bumbo is ok before investing.

They are fab for limited timescales (and we did the kitchen work surface thing too - proof below). Beware the BumboPoonami though - the positioning of bum and seat means that explodapoos usually reach about 6 inches higher than normal...

I used one for E, not often or for long, but when I did it was brilliant! x

when my daughter was a baby I didn't bother getting one, then gave it when she was about 5 months and it was fab, as everyone said not to be used for too long each day but I found it invaluable and if I have another baby will definately be digging it out of the cupboard.

If I were you, I'd try and get one second hand - or even better, borrow one at least until you know LO likes it as they are expensive.  Neither of my two were great fans of it TBH.  A is 6 months now and will sit in it for about 2 minutes before she starts throwing her head back and trying to escape.

Thanks everyone.  SL that pic is too cute!!  I think G would actually really love the bumbo.  Eek about the poonami situation though, they're bad enough as they are without help Laugh

Noggin unfortunately I don't know anyone with one, otherwise I'd give that a go.  We got given mothercare vouchers from H's work so thought we could use them for this... am going into town tomorrow and wondering if I could try him in one instore.

I should definitely try one in-store.  In my local Mothercare there is always one out of it's box.  From experience they can be very useful but only for a really brief period.  If there are any NCT sales happening near you soon, these tend to be the sort of places you can pick them up cheap

    Hi there

I used one at the local surestart centre - they had them at the mother and baby group i went to so put C in one there. She like it but after a while would arch her back to try and get out.

I did find it useful for weaning before we bought the highchair though - Im not sure they are worth 30 -35 quid - we got ours off ebay for 10.

Just please be aware - my friend's baby recently fell out of a bumbo which was on a worktop.  She'd only taken her eyes off the baby for a second and she fell out and onto the kitchen floor.  Luckily she was fine apart from a huge egg shaped bump on her head but it could have been so much worse and my friend still hasn't forgiven herself.

Sorry, don't mean to scare monger but would hate it if this happened to someone else.

Ours was a lifesaver. Matilda never ever liked laying on her back so the bumbo meant I could get things done and she could watch me. I used it as a high chair when I first started weaning.

Do you have any friends who have one? I tried M in one before we purchased ours. I know a lot of babies try to flip themselves out backwards from them. I would have been a tad annoyed to have paid out £35 for one and she did that. Fortunately, it was worth every penny!

sarah won't sit in hers for more than 15-20 mins - just enough time for me to get dressed and grab some brekkie! It means she get a different 'view' on her toys tho as the rest of the day she'll be lying down to play with them: I have a hilarious video of her desperatly trying to pick up the ball but i think it'll be too big to post!

i got ours in mothercare with the CTF vouchers - the green was on display and they didn't have any boxed in that colour so they gave me 15% off it for being 'ex demo'!
