  • Oct / Nov / Dec mums - how quickly they grow up

    Hi All

Just thought I'd say a quick hello and see how you are all doing? Noah is nearly 11 weeks old now (where does the time go?). He has dropped his 1am feed recently and has slept for the last few nights from 11-6am which has been absolute bliss. I'm trying not to get used to it though so as not to be too depressed when he inevitably decides he wants to wake in the night again.

Feeding is hit and miss still. I have done some google investigating and realised that the discomfort is not thrush - which I suspected and the doctor confirmed, but due to N's latch being not so great, I get nipple blanching (where the end of my nipple goes white after a feed) and that can be quite sore. I'm persevering though and am determined to continue. He weighted 12oz exactly last Thursday so I know he is putting on weight well and always seems pretty content.

We've been out and about a bit more and I have got a few plans to get some 'me' time, including a trip to the spa in March so am expressing a freezer stash for those occasions.

    How are you all going?

Hi Smarties Wave What a lovely picture of Noah Fluffy

Isla is not so good at sleeping. I'm still waiting for her to drop the 2.30 feed, but it doesn't look like she's in any hurry to do this. I feed her any time between 9-10pm, she will then sleep for 4 hours before waking for a feed again. Then goes down for another 2-3 hours before waking again.

How can I get my baby to sleep for longer at night? She is good at napping in the daytime, she feeds on demand, *sigh* I guess it's just one of those things. Oh, she's 11 weeks BTW, and over 12lbs so she should be able to sleep for longer than 4 hours at a time, surely?!!!

Apart from her sleep (or lack of it) she is an abosulte delight, so smiley and alert. She's really strong and holds her head well, and has a strong kick too. SHe has a bit of cradle cap, but we're treating that with Dentinox shampoo and olive oil. I also went to baby massage yesterday and she loved that

Don't have any recent pics online, so here's one from about 3 weeks ago

    Hello

What a gorgeous picture.  We are ok Olivia is at the moment going to bed at 8ish and waking for a feed at about 4 and then sleeping until about 8.  Again I am aware this will change but am also enjoyng it while it lasts!  I have had a blister on my nipple this week so it was very sore but seems to have cleared up now.  O is going through a stage of being quite unsettled during the day and it has been difficult trying to work out what is wrong.  Feeding calms for a bit but I wonder sometimes if I am feeding too often.  She weighed 11lb 14oz two weeks ago (10 weeks) haven't had her weighed since ut she must be between 12 and 13lb.

I will upload a picture later when I have uploaded them.

Hope all the other babies are doing well

    Hello all,

Let me be the bearer of bad news for all of you mummies of good sleepers - it certainly may well change! We seem to be beginning the dreaded 16 week growth spurt a couple of days early, Gabrielle had been waking once a night and sometimes sleeping through, but on Wednesday night she woke up for feeds at 2.45 and 5.20, then last night it was 1.15, 3.00, 3.30 (didn't need a feed that time), 6.10, 7.20 and finally up for the day at 8.30. Pretty horrendous specially as I couldn't get back to sleep at all between the first feed and the 6.10 one which is when I brought her into my bed. Tonight I have agreed with H that I just feed and he does all the re-settling, and hopefully I'll be able to sleep! I'm eating LOTS of HH's flapjack to try and improve my supply, and attempting to have better feeds in the day but she's so distractible.

Naps are improving though, we're trying to put her in the cot if we're home and she's usually managing at least a couple of hours a time. One of us will sit with her through the nap but it's no hardship as we can read or surf the net etc.

She's getting more and more fun every day and is happy to sit and play with toys, although of course everything she gets hold of goes in the mouth at the minute. We think we had our first laugh the other day when H was blowing raspberries on her tummy.

In a couple of weeks we're going to leave her with my mum and dad for a couple of hours, it's hard for me to be away her at the minute as she's very hit and miss with a bottle (went out and left her with H last week, was out from 1.30 to 6.00 and she didn't feed in the whole time), but I'm sure if I feed her right before we leave they will be OK.

    Hi all

    your babies are all gorgeous!

Ava is 15 weeks and I'm sorry but I second everything MQ has just said!! Hopefully its just G and Ava though so you guys dont have to be a MINOS too!!!  I posted yesterday about losing confidence and have been reassured that I'm not on my own and hopfully it will pass!! it appears Ava's 3/4 month growth spurts have merged!

Having a tough time at the mo and missing the sleepy newborn days and having a content baby!

However all said she's still gorgeous and I love her very much! I'm just shattered! Looking forward to my mum having her one night next week so H and I can go on a date!! just need to start expressing more so mum has a freezer stash too!!

Here's a recent pic but I think I've distorted it a bit as she looks squished!!

  • Re: Oct / Nov / Dec mums - how quickly they grow up

Lovely to see all your updates and pictures! They are all gorgeous!

James is 14 wks today and so smiley! His sleep is rubbish, although I am grateful that he will go down in his cot at 7pm ish each evening. Sometimes he needs resettling several times in the eve and sometimes not, but he will wake at 10 ish for a feed and then often twice or three times more through the night. It's exhausting and I can't imagine it'll change much as we are heading towards the big growth spurt anyway!

He is feeding like a trooper and piling the weight on, he has overtaken T at the same age who was bigger at birth! Heaven knows why he cant sleep for longer stretches! Ho hum, this too shall pass!

No pics on my new laptop so can't share and of my smiley boy but will sort that out soon I hope.

    xx

    Hi all,

    What lovely babies.

Sorry to hear some of you are having a tough time wiht feeding and sleeping - I hope things settle soon.

G is now 11 and a half weeks. She was weighed today and is 12lbs - I am just a bit concerned as she was previously just above the 50th centile and she is now approaching the 25th. She has started to learn to grab at objects now and is a joy to be with. However, we are struggling with teething and cradle cap at the moment. We have been using grapeseed oil and dentinox on her scalp for the last week and it is still an issue. I just don't know where to start with the teething - we are using bonjela teething gel and tried to get her to use teething toys but she really doesn't get it.

I struggle to get G to have daytime naps, but this is slowly improving and she is a much nicer child! She isn't doing too badly at night - she will generally sleep between 6-8 hours. She feeds near enough every hour in the day though - it can make it hard at classes as I often need to feed her twice whilst there!

This is a picture of my attempts getting her to have daytime naps where I need to basically wait on her crashing out when playing...

Hi El11 - Dentinox Teething Gel is Fab and so are the nelsons teething powders. Ava's struggling at the moment too with the start of teething and it's horrible!! hope that helps Xx

Hello all, what gorgeous babies we have!

Struan is 1 month old today and is still fabulous.  We're now formula feeding after the reflux got a bit much for me!  He is thriving though and Im really happy that I got to 3 weeks after only managing 3 days with Milly.

He is sleeping well, goes down to bed at 7pm in his basket in our room, then we feed him at 1.30 when we hed to bed.  that usually sees him through til around 4am and then he goes back down til between 6.30 and 8, usually around 7.30 though.  He normally wakes up at about 3am and has a little chunter to himself but I just give him his dummy and he settles off again.  Im sure this wont last forever though so Im trying to enjoy it while it lasts.  Im tired tonight though as Milly was up half the night being a pain!

Dont have any recent pics on here but I will rectify this asap.

El11 - have you tried ashton and parsons teething powders?  They worked wonders with Milly.

Hi all, Ethan was 6 weeks on thursday and must be one of the most contented babies ever. He loves his snuggles and sleeps. He's getting bigger by the second, weighing in at 12lb 4oz on thurs. He's  fab and makes me smile every time I look at him.

  • Re: Oct / Nov / Dec mums - how quickly they grow up

Hi everyone - it's lovely to see all these photos, our babies are really growing!

Lucy is 8 weeks now and such a sweet baby.  She has trouble napping during the day (she wants quiet, which is hard with a noisy toddler around), so she can be completely wired and screaming by 5pm if she hasn't napped well enough.  When she has had enough sleep, she is the smiliest girl in the world  Her night time sleep is still all over the place, sometimes waking once a night, sometimes three times.  I'm dreading the 3/4 month growth spurt as T was a great sleeper til then, when he started waking up every two hours and continued this until her was 7-8 months old!

She weighed 10lb 12 last week, which means her weight gain has slowed down a bit - we're seeing the paediatrician for her 2 month vaccinations next week, so I'll ask him if I need to be concerned.  She feeds so quickly I don't know how she gets enough milk in at each feed!

Here she is at 7 weeks:

    1

    Morning all,

it's great to hear how everyone is doing. I hope the sleep issues settle soon for those that are struggling.

Louie is 9 weeks tomorrow. I can't believe how quickly time has flown! I posted yesterday about napping during the day. He will go down for about 30mins tops during the day so I'm struggling to get things done. What i find myself doing is passing him onto the girls or H as soon as they get home so i can crak out some dinner and put a wash load on Laugh

However he's much more alert now and sucj fun. he has the most gorgeous smile that lights up his whole face. Daddy has taught him to poke his tongue out so that is his greeting to evryone! naughty but funny too.

He is almost grown out of his 0-3months stuff the little chubster and is wearing 3-6months. His last weigh in was 2 weeks ago at 12lb 4oz.  He has his jabs on Mon which i'm not looking forward too Sad

Sleep wise at night this past week he has gone to bed at 10pm and slept through until 3am, woken for a feed then back down again until 6am-ish. He'll sometimes settle with a dummy or want another bottle at this point. This morning he settled until 8.30am!

Here is a picture taken a last week.

  • Re: Oct / Nov / Dec mums - how quickly they grow up

Hi girls, it's lovely to hear how you are all doing, I don't get to post much these days but do read a few threads! Carter is doing really well and will be 10 weeks on Monday, how time flies! His a chunky monkey too and weighed in at 13lbs the week before last, I'm sure he will be 14 when I get him weighed on monday! His sleeping is getting much better, he'll go down around 10pm till 2 or 3 then his fed and back down till 6 or 7. During the day he doesn't nap much unless we go out and he has a problem with getting overtired and fighting it, I've started to notice his tired signs now so I tend to put him down in his moses basket and although he will cry for a while he will eventually go off to sleep.

I think he gets a little frustrated with himself at the moment as he wants to play more but can't do much yet, his discovered that his arms are part of him now and it's very funny to watch him stare at them when his moving them trying to figure it all out! We're getting lots of smiles and everyday he seems to do something new! He had his jabs last week which weren't nice and he was a bit unsettled afterwards but not too bad, I think I was more upset than he was to be honest!

We've started going to baby massage and he loves it, I'm trying to incorporate it into a bed time routine but sometimes his not in the mood for it, but when he is it's lovely. Heres a pic of him smiling a few weeks ago!

Hi girls Wave - it is amazing how quickly time is flying - I can't believe that it has nearly been 3 months since A entered our world. It's been a whirlwind!

we're doing fine - the good stuff definitely outweighing the hard days. I'll try and be quick - Anna is playing on her playmat and will go from happily playing to ridiculously overtired in a matter of seconds!

Feeding going well - still exclusively BF and our troubles are hopefully behind us. She has not been weighed since her 6 weeks check but is a chunky monkey so not worried too much. She is too long for her 0-3 month clothes now. She is generally a happy wee soul - loves us being out and about so we have a very busy social calendar!

Sleepwise - we are co-sleeping so she still wakes for feeds but I am half-asleep when she does so it doesn't bother me how often as neither of us wake for very long and she settles back to sleep no bother. She has taken a bottle of EBM so am looking forward to having a wee evening out with H soon. Daytime naps are a bit hit and miss - she fights tiredness but when she does go down, she can sleep from 20mins up to 2 hours!

I really love reading how you are all getting along. You all have such beautiful babies and it's so lovely to see them all - they are no longer teeny wee newborns!

Here's a wee pic of A last weekend - smiling at her gran.
