  • Today I experienced goop!

    Have you seen this?

All it is, is cornflour mixxed with water but it's like magic stuff. You touch it and it's firm and you make marks in it, and then it returns to looking like a liquid. So wierd!

We use it at school frequently, but call it gloop. It's the best 45 minutes in every class, regardless of ability. I could spend longer but there's just too much else to be done in a day.

I loved this when I used to work at nurseries. Fabulous sensory/messy play activity - we used to put different food colourings in them and mix them to make some weird patterns and colours. Smile

Its a non-Newtonian di-latent fluid. The starch molecules in the liquid can slide freely over eachother, but when you hit them hard, they try to move too quickly and just grip on to eachother.

    tres cool stuff!

I've always said chemistry was fab.Big Smile

I did know ish the science behind it but not well enough to put it like Mazzy-Moo did!

I love putting scents into it, like lemon or peppermint as it makes the room smell amazing!

  • Re: Today I experienced goop!

It's great isn't it! I used to make it up for the nursery kids at school, but forgot all about it until I went to our local children's centre recently and they had it there. I didn't realise it had a name though!

  • Re: Today I experienced goop!

Isn't it great? We went to messy play once and one of my Mummy friends was laughing at me because I messed around with the stuff (haven't heard it called 'goop' before, but I like it) so much I dyed my fingers blue from the food colouring. Apparently if you throw it at the wall, it'll shatter. Incredible.

  • Re: Today I experienced goop!

so what is the ratio of water to cornflour, sounds really interesting!
