  • When did you start wearing maternity clothes?

    Hello!

I'm 11 weeks now, and over the past few days i've noticed my trousers are getting very tight. I can zip them up and everything but they are uncomforatble when i sit down and leave marks on my stomach. I have some New Look maternity jeans with elasticated side panels ready but surely it's too early to break out the maternity jeans? Laugh

Hi Moomin. I'm almost 15 weeks now and have been wearing maternity jeans for about 2 weeks, although they're still a bit too big and I can just about fit into my own jeans still! Although they do have to be unbuttoned after I've eaten or been sitting for a while!

I bought maternity trousers for work really early as my own trousers were really getting tight and i didn't see the point in buying a bigger size to tide me over for a few weeks.

Why not try them out and see how you get on with them?

I think I was about 16 weeks. However I never wore matenrity tops, my bump was very low so I managed in maternity trousers & skirts with stretchy vest tops.

  • Re: When did you start wearing maternity clothes?

First time round it was baout 17 weeks but this time round it was much earlier, although it was just trousers not tops to begin with

  • Re: When did you start wearing maternity clothes?

I think I started in proper maternity clothes at about 18-20 weeks.  But my trousers were uncomfortable from about 13-14.  I got some bump bands so I could wear my trousers undone and they were held up (especially at work, where my uniform trousers kept nearly falling down Embarrassed )

  • Re: When did you start wearing maternity clothes?

13 weeks, same as you my jeans were uncomfy from 10 weeks. I say if they're comfy for you, it's never too early!

12 weeks - my normal low slung trousers were ok up to 15 weeks if just for normal wear but I was on the back of a motorbike for up to 8 hours a day from 12-15 weeks as we toured round spain and france and it was more comfortable in that position in my maternity trousers!

I was about 16-17 weeks I think . I had recently lost a bit of weight before I got pregnant, so I had some fat jeans I could fit into before going into maternity trousers.

Congratulations on your pregnancy BTW x

  • Re: When did you start wearing maternity clothes?

I wore my maternity jeans from 13 weeks, mainly because I'd already bought some as they were stupidly cheap in a sale and when I tried them on and realised how much comfier there were than my normal jeans I never looked back. I was in my size 10 trousers until 17 weeks, when I realised that I had stretched the seams to within a mm of their lives and then I eeked out the size 12s for a few more weeks before buying maternity trousers. I have also worn maternity tops from quite early on as I needed new clothes for work etc anyway, so thought I may as well buy maternity and get some wear out of it than buy new clothes that I would end up stretching and possibly not be able to wear again afterwards. I only have a small bump at 32 weeks, but have found that even some of my longer normal tops are not long enough anyway. Maternity clothes these days are so much more fashionable and comfortable. My husband went a bit overboard at xmas and with only 2 months to go I can see me not wearing all the clothes I've got this time around, so go for it and get some wear out of them.

I tried some maternity jeans on from Next at 13 weeks but they slide down my backside! So I bought some mens jeans in a 36, I'm normally a 32 and they are still ok apart from the top button which I have a piece of elastic which fastens it and a longer belt!

I have bought one going out maternity top but apart I am still in regular clothes at 27 weeks despite having an adequate bump.

First time round, I think it was about 16 weeks - I remember buying some trousers in New Look and they had to check I realised it was maternity wear as I wasn't showing.

This time, I caved in at about 8 weeks! Tummy is very bloated and most of my trousers have adjustable waists so should grow with me.

Well I've bought some under bump jeans in the sales and they are just too big at the moment but I also bought a pair of over bump jeans and although they sag a little they are much more comfortable than wearing jeans or trousers with buttons undone and digging into my already flabby belly. I've worn these for about a week now and I'll be 14 weeks tomorrow.

  • Re: When did you start wearing maternity clothes?

About 20 weeks first time and about 15 weeks 2nd time!

Getting a bit worried reading this - I'm 7 +3 and I can't do up my jeans (or I can, but a horrible muffin top and can't sit down!!).  At this rate it will be triplets in there!
