  • Eeeek my MIL last night

She called and was speaking to H so I could only hear his half of the conversation, but he was saying 'no we won't be telling anyone, you'll just have to wait, there isn't one so you can't do that, they won't let you in'.

Turns out that she'd been asking him to phone as soon as my contractions start so that she can come straight over (takes about 2 and a half hours) and then she can come and see us on the delivery suite or wait in the waiting room so she can come in straight after the baby is born. So H was obviously telling her that she couldn't do this, both of the hospitals we're considering have very strict no visiting on the delivery suite rules and won't allow people to sit around in the waiting room. So he said that there was no point them coming up if they couldn't come in until visiting hours anyway and she was saying surely they would make an exception and let them in as soon as the baby is born Eek

I knew that this would happen and I'm so glad H set them straight without me even having to ask him. I do not want my FIL in the room 10 mins after I've given birth. I want that first hour or two to try and get breastfeeding started and to be just me, H and Gilbert/ina without having to worry about other people.

how awful! Good on your H for setting her straight!

Why on earth would she think that you'd want them both there as soon as you've given birth?

Sadly, I envisage something similar happening to me when it's my turn.

I bet she wouldnt have wanted her in laws in as soon as she'd given birth, they're quick to forget.  xx

sorry but ROTFL that only happens on TV!

tell her strictly no-one but partners on the ward due to SF - this was the rule in our hospiral when sarah was born... then hope she doesn't call the hospital to check! or u could be really mean and tell her the wrong hospital!!

Oh no, I couldn't think of anything worse than having the MIL visiting that soon!!  My Mil who will be in Australia till I decided to give birth has already said that she wants to know the date that i'll be going into labour because she might have to book an earlier flight.  I sort of want to accidently forget to tell her so that it delays her, she is a bit of a nightmare too!  I feel your pain.

    Good for your H

Makes me mad when people think that they can be the exception to the rule because they are x y or z!

Where I will be having my second (A was also born there) they have tightened up on the visiting rules because of SF.  NO children other than siblings of the newborn are allowed in - I have a 12 year old sister and my mum thinks that they will bend the rules for her becuase she will be the baby's auntie!!

  • Re: Eeeek my MIL last night

fyi i got a letter from my hospital saying due to swine flu only the partner is allowed to visit (even siblins/grand parents are not allowed)

maybe mention this. (i dont know how long it will go on for but im due in march and got the letter)

i do live in dublin.. but it sounds like a reasonable request from hospitals at the moment esp a maternity one with all those new babys

Lol ive been having this with my mum who let slip last week she was planning on coming to the hospital whilst i was in labour so she could be the first to see the baby (umm you're 53 grow up its not a competition!). Thank god she slipped up as i wont call her now when the contractions start!

Ive actually told my family the same as Looby said that due to SF there are no visitors and they will have to wait till we get home, i do feel bad for lying but im keen to have some us time the same as you!

Thing is I don't mind them coming when we're on the post natal ward at all. I just want to make sure I'm cleaned up first. Can you imagine being stiched up legs a kimbo as you're PIL burst into the room to visit Eek or being covered in goo and all you want to do is get a good shower and you can't because the room is full of people. Once I'm in my nice pjs and I've had a chance to breastfeed they are more than welcome to come.

I know they are dying to meet the baby, but come on!

It's bad enough that MIL wants to come round every other day Bawl

I completely feel your pain DDL!  My MIL insisted on being there when i was told i was having an emergency section, and she visited me EVERY DAY that I was in ( was kept in for 4 days after due to babs being 4 week early).  I had made a no visitor rule for 2 weeks after babs was born, but noone tookany notice of it, and his side of the family visited constantly.

MIL continues to enforce her opinion and demands and its driving me to distraction as Hubbie likes to please everyone........

I totally agree with you not seeing anyone for a couple of hours at least. My Mum and step dad came in the delivery room about 10 mins after I had been stitched up! The floor was covered in blood and my SD nearly passed out!!! All I wanted to do was get in the bath and scrubbed up ready to see people!

Although on the other hand when I was on the post natal ward we were ringing everyone and noone came to visit!!! Sad MIL lived about half hour away but was scared of getting lost!
