  • Loch Fyne?

I've never been. Whats it like? I've heard really mixed reviews. I have a voucher for them.

Am a heuge fish lover BTW

  • Re: Loch Fyne?

My parents go to the Sevenoaks branch of Loch Fyne and they absolutely love it. My Dad is French and very particular about his seafood and if he raves about it then it must be good. Having said that just because the Sevenoaks branch is good that doesn't mean the other branches are of the same quality.

  • Re: Loch Fyne?

I've always had a pretty good experience to be honest.  Not as good as I have had in independant fish restaurants in my area but pretty good for how much you pay.   Does that help?!

  • Re: Loch Fyne?

woo hoo all sounds good so far. I so want it to be good as the menu looks lovely. The bad things I've heard do centre a bit more round the service so I guess thats entirely down to the branch.

  • Re: Loch Fyne?

My parents rave about it too, they keep trying to persuade us to go to one....

I ate at the Leeds branch on the restricted summer offer menu thing last year and it was distinctly meh - though most of us had non-fish dishes, so I don't know what they're like. I guess because it was the offer menu it was never going to be amazing.

My colleague raves about it though and her husband loves the platter thing. Worth a try with a voucher I reckon!

  • Re: Loch Fyne?

I thought you meant the place!  I didn't realise that there was now a chain of restaurants.  The place is lovely and whenever I'm up there I always pop in for my oyster platter and go home with bags of pates and fish - I luuuuuurve fish.  The smoked oysters are horrible though Ick!

  • Re: Loch Fyne?

I got locked in the toilet when our local branch opened.  Was a bloody nightmare as there were no spaces for me shout out of and I couldn't move the lock.  I was in there for 20 minutes before someone came in - it was like the longest 20 minutes of my life.  I emerged almost hyperventilating to Mr P tucking into his main course.  I was like - did you not wonder what had happened to me?!   The staff handled it well though and we got a free bottle of house wine as I was pretty freaked out!

Am sure this won't happen to you though! Laugh

  • Re: Loch Fyne?

I agree that it depends on the branch and when it's good, it's really good. Had a cracking lunch in the Guildford one.

I woudn't go back to the Bluewater one. We were lured in by the 2 courses for £12 offer written on a huge board outside. The place was virtually empty. The waiter gave us the normal menu and I got a sigh when I asked for the offer menu. Sorry but if you want people ordering a la carte then don't put an offer board outside!

I'm sure you'll enjoy it in any case - food tastes better when it's free.

  • Re: Loch Fyne?

Not sure where you are but from my experience the Henely On Thames and Wokingham branches have always been fantastic but Reading hasn't been so great service wise.

I'd highly recommend it though, I'm not even a massive fish fan but still enjoy Loch Fyne.

The Knutsford one is lovely, staff great and food yum

  • Re: Loch Fyne?

We go to the one in Egham and we love it - great atmosphere, service and food.

  • Re: Loch Fyne?

Sorry to be a misog, but I've been to the SEvenoaks one (admittedly about 5 years ago) and it was OK. I've been to the Reading one more recently, and I was bitterly disappointed. Overpriced and under-tasty.

We go to the Twickenham one and it's lovely- we're huge fish eaters and really like the food there.

I've been to the Leeds branch twice and enjoyed it both times however probably wouldn't go again unless I had a voucher as found it overpriced for what you get.
