  • What's your funniest childbirth memory?

I know alot of people have some, umm, interesting memories from g+a. They always make me laugh so I thought we could have giggle.

Mine has to be a couple of days previously in hospital. The mw was collecting my soaked towels in a bedpan to calculate my enormous blood loss. Anyway she picked the pan up to show the dr and out flew a bloody towel and landed at H's feet! H so nearly puked! Bearing in mind even tampon adverts make him queasy.

The other was when , in a g+a induced haze, the mw broke my waters and I turned to H and said 'now that's what you call dropping a gusher'.  Classy bird me!

With Harry I was high on pethidine and gas and air when I went through transition and firmly stated that I had had enough, I was getting off the bed, I was picking up my bags and I was going home. Laugh I could have also sworn H was ignoring me and watching tv, but it wasn't even on.

I had G&A and it made me feel horribly sick. I got myself pretty paralytic on it, and then got the horrors so had to stop using it.

The only thing that makes me laugh looking back, was that I had carefully formulated a sentence asking when it would be possible for me to have an epidural, shortly after being examined (I was 3cm)

For about 5 minutes I could only say one word of it "when.... when..... when..... wh.. when.... when..." H kept saying "when what?"

Totally freaked out H, but both he and the MW saw the funny side once I got the whole sentence out. MW said "any time from 3cm, so would you like me to fetch the anaesth...." she was cut off by me nodding vigorously and saying "NOW." Laugh

Then there was jovial Gary the anaesthetist's assistant in theatre who suggested when we said we were of the understanding that we were having a boy, that "Gary is a GREAT name Big Smile"

With hindsight it was Mr Rabbit trying to take off my TENS with wet hands (he'd just filled the pool) and nearly electrocuting me ... I'm told I jumped several feet off the ground and my language was incredible, which is probably fair given how much it hurt ... and the TENS had been faff all use

    I love this thread!

Our funniest moment had to be when I was being examined at home by the on-call midwife and as things had moved quickly and the paramedics were getting things ready in case I had to deliver then and there.  H squeezed past them all, clutching my list of last minute things to pack, tapped me on the shoulder and asked "what shade of blusher do you want me to put in?"

    Laugh These are funny!

I have a few though...none to do with G&A though

When I first went in the midwife said she was going to examine me, and I told her I wouldn't if I was her as it "wasn't pretty" down there.

hubby and midwife were talking about his job, I felt a  contraction coming, thought I won't say anything yet or have the gas and air because I don't want to interupt them, it then became so strong thatI said 'erm excuse me back to me please!' then started on the gas and air, when the contraction finished I said 'right as you were, sorry for interupting'

    Then in the pool:

I kept telling the midwife and student midwife to get themselves a drink and said that if they are due a break to go and have one because I'd be fine and would feel guilty if they missed a break because of me.

The midwife said 'I've just got to go get my....' I interpupted with 'scalpel' then she laughed and said 'no senior midwife'

The main midwife and senior midwife left the room for a minute, I turned to the student midwife and said "I've got a strong contraction coming (which was true) how about me and you get this baby out whilst they are out of the room, that'd be good wouldn't it!"

Oh and I also apologised in advance incase I pooed.

    This thread is great!

The funniest thing I said was asking the midwife to knock me out and for her to have the baby for me!

The other thing was on our first night home when M was about 3 days old, I had just had me first proper bath, done my hair, put on make up and nice clothes for the first time post birth and was feeling pretty good! I can downstairs to change Ms nappy and he pee'd over my top and hair while my MIL and OH sat there laughing!

With Ana I'd been in labour a long time and things were going very slowly. I'd also been on the gas and air for a while. When I was transferred to hospital, the gas and air wasn't working properly. The only way they could get the conister working was to open the top... SO me, the paramedic and the midwife were vrey giggly by the time we got there....

When we got there I was trying to push and the Dr was being a cow. I had no idea how I was doing so I grabbed the midwife and said, "I need to know what's happening. I'm a teacher! I THRIVE on positive praise!"

And my favourite.... When H was asked if he wanted to see the head I bellowed, "Keep him away from there, we don't have enough sex as it is!" He hasn't forgiven me for that one yet....

My favourite G&A story of all time is Hecate's. Hopefully she'll be along shortly to tell it.

Sadly G&A did crap all for me so no story of my own to tell.
