  • What do you call "breaking wind"?!!

I'm after inspiration, I'm not sure I should bring my child up using "fart"  Laugh

We say  "trump" in our house. "Fart" just doesn't sound like a kiddie word to me!Embarrassed

    Trumping.

My rather twee aunt says "windy pops" and my cousin says "potty wind". Why she adds the 'potty' bit, I don't know.

  • Re: What do you call "breaking wind"?!!

Its 'puffing' in our house !

  • Re: What do you call "breaking wind"?!!

Trump here too. Agree with fart not sounding very child-like!

My mother is forever telling the story of how, aged 2.5 I suddenly exclaimed, "Mummy! My bottom coughed!" EmbarrassedROTFL

We have parping in our house. When I was growing up it was "blowing off" but I'm not sure that's so appropriate either ROTFL

Trump, guff, parp, blowing off, windy pops, pumping, bottom burp - all ways we describe farting when LO is about!  He thinks farting is hilarious ROTFL

  • Re: What do you call "breaking wind"?!!

I've just been informed that in Dutch, it's scheet laten, which roughly translates as sh1t burp. Nice!

  • Re: What do you call "breaking wind"?!!

We also use "trump" and agree that fart sounds far too harsh when dealing with LOs.

We're obviously the only household that uses the word fart Embarrassed

I've heard popping most commonly among my friends.

  • Re: What do you call "breaking wind"?!!

Bizarre one in our house - it's known as a "Baff"

H best friends Dad used to call them that and H and all his school friends liked the term and it stuck, in the 12 years I have known him I have never heard him call it anything else so we all do now.

Lol we're really twee and mostly have "windy pops" in this house. H sometimes uses 'fart' but I have an irrational dislike of that word, I seem to recall it being regarded as a bit of a naughty word when I was little and it's obviously stayed with me. 'Pumps' are referred to occasionally too or sometimes it's just 'smelly bottom'.

N is a very windy girl though, we need the variety of phrases.
